Cleidocranial dysostosis is a rare autosomal condition that affects ossification. The dental abnormalities associated with it present a remarkable challenge in orthodontic treatment planning. Early diagnosis is extremely important to give the patient the best treatment options. Patients with cleidocranial dysostosis require a team approach with good communication and cooperation from the patient. Timing of the intervention is critical, and many surgeries might be required. The patient in this report was treated with a team effort that involved several dental specialties to achieve an optimal r

Soft tissue changes were analysed retrospectively in 17 patients following distraction osteogenesis (DO) of the mandibular anterior alveolar process. Lateral cephalograms were traced by hand, digitized, superimposed, and evaluated at T1 (17.0 days), after DO at T2 (mean 6.5 days), at T3 (mean 24.4 days), at T4 (mean 2.0 years), and at T5 (mean 5.5 years). Statistical analysis was carried out using Kolmogorov-Smirnov test, paired t-test, Pearson's correlation coefficient, and linear backward regression analysis. 5.5 years postoperatively, the net effect for the soft tissue at point B' was 88% o

A 13-year, 9-month-old girl presented with the chief complaint of crowding and protrusion of her anterior teeth. She was dolichofacial with a Class II Division 1 occlusion and had reached the final phase of her skeletal growth. Clinical symptoms and tomograms were indicative of a TMJ dysfunction. Because orthognathic surgery was not accepted by the patient and her parents, a Herbst appliance became the choice of treatment. An optimal occlusion and a good facial appearance were achieved after 24 months of treatment. TMJ tomograms at the end of treatment showed a more physiologic condylar positi

The treatment of young patients with missing maxillary incisors poses a challenge to prosthodontists and orthodontists. The 2 principal treatment options are (1) the reopening or maintenance of space for future autotransplantation and/or prosthodontic restoration of the missing teeth, or (2) total orthodontic space closure, followed by prosthodontic modification of the lateral incisors to simulate the central incisors. This article discusses only the second option and describes 2 alternative methods for the modification of crown anatomy. These procedures facilitate the orthodontic closure of m

BACKGROUND: Maxillary molar distalization is one of the standard non-extraction strategies for correcting Class II malocclusion. However, conventional modalities are frequently hindered by profound compliance dependence, inadvertent anchorage loss, and the necessity for invasive surgical interventions. To address these limitations, a fully customized, non-invasive, intraorally cemented individual distalizer (ID) was engineered. The clinical efficiency of the ID was compared with that of the cervical headgear (CHG), and a finite element analysis (FEA) was conducted to investigate the difference

This case report shows the successful alignment of bilateral impacted maxillary canines. A 12-year-old male with the chief complaint of the protrusion of his maxillary anterior teeth happened to have bilateral maxillary canine impaction on the labial side of his maxillary incisors. Four maxillary incisors showed severe root resorption because of the impacted canines. The patient was diagnosed as skeletal Class II malocclusion with proclined maxillary incisors. The impacted canine was carefully retracted using sectional buccal arch wires to avoid further root resorption of the maxillary incisor
