BACKGROUND: Vitamin K antagonists (VKAs) are the first-line strategy for anticoagulation in patients with left ventricular assist devices (LVADs). Recently, the HeartMate 3 (HM3) LVAD, has shown lower thrombotic complications than previous technologies.
