BACKGROUND: The best space maintainer in both primary and mixed dentition is the primary tooth itself. This is not only because of the clinical crown but also due to the presence of the roots and periodontium that guide the eruption of the permanent tooth. Although over the years many materials have been tried for obturation of pulpectomized primary teeth, no material has been found to fulfill all requirements. The aim of the present study was to evaluate the clinical and radiographic efficiency of zinc oxide-eugenol (ZOE), zinc oxide-ozonated oil, antioxidant mix, and probiotic mix in root ca

BACKGROUND/AIM: Anterior teeth are prone to traumatic dental injuries (TDIs). Although a number of techniques ranging from original tooth fragment reattachment (TFR) to direct composite restoration (DCR) can be used to restore uncomplicated crown fractures, there is no consensus on which method is best. The purpose of this study was to investigate the fracture resistance of bovine incisors restored by two different techniques (TFR and DCR) in three different fracture models.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: Sixty extracted bovine lower incisors were randomly divided into three groups (n = 20). Angle, o

BACKGROUND: The development of techniques in biomaterials design and production added to advanced surgical procedures which enabled better and more predictable clinical outcomes. Maxillary sinus floor augmentation (MSFA) is among the more studied bone-guided regeneration procedure in the literature. The MSFA could be considered the gold standard procedure for bone-guided regeneration as it provides suitable functional and aesthetic solutions to alveolar ridge atrophy due to tooth loss.
PURPOSE: This study aimed to conduct a detailed histomorphometric evaluation of collagen production in SFAs

AIM: Two eruption surgical techniques are commonly described for the treatment of upper impacted central incisors (ICIs): Open and closed. Currently, the closed-eruption surgical technique (CEST) is the most commonly used, as it allows for the best esthetic and periodontal results. The aim of this study was to determine the effect of traction discontinuation on maxillary central incisor sulcal depth and alveolar bone ridge levels compared with contralateral incisors, when CEST is used.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: Our study involved 28 unilateral impacted maxillary central incisors treated by CEST.

Fluorotic teeth could either be more resistant or more susceptible to the caries process than sound ones due to their higher enamel fluoride concentration and higher porosity (subsurface hypomineralization), respectively; however, there is no consensus on this subject. In this study, a total of 49 human unerupted third molars presenting Thylstrup and Fejerskov (TF) fluorosis scores 0-4 were used. Two enamel slabs were obtained from each tooth. The rest of the tooth crown was powdered, and the enamel was separated from the dentine. In purified powdered enamel, the calcium (Ca), inorganic phosph…

BACKGROUND: With the introduction of skeletal anchorage system, recently it is possible to successfully intrude molar teeth. On the other hand, there have been concerns about periodontal changes associated with intrusion and there are few studies on this topic, especially for posterior teeth.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: Ten female patients were enrolled in this study. Maxillary molar intrusion was achieved by inserting two miniscrews and a 17 × 25 titanium molybdenum alloy spring. Crestal height changes were evaluated at three intervals including: Baseline (T0), end of active treatment (T1) and 6

BACKGROUND: Stainless steel crowns (SSCs), which have been used frequently in the treatment of first permanent molars in children until now, has become less applicable due to its poor aesthetic appearance. Zirconia crowns (ZCs) have become more popular due to their aesthetic advantage. However, stress transmission of ZCs to dental tissues under occlusal forces in endodontically treated teeth has not been described.
OBJECTIVE: The aim of this study was to compare the stress distribution of different crown materials (ZCS, SSCs) and adhesive materials on dentin in endodontically treated permanen

The aim of the study was to test the hypothesis that the gene defect causing congenital absence of maxillary lateral incisors also causes narrowing of the dentition. A total of 81 patients with one or two congenitally missing lateral incisors were retrieved; 52 (64.2 per cent) patients presented bilateral agenesis, whereas 29 (35.8 per cent) had unilateral agenesis. The control group consisted of 90 consecutively treated patients. The largest mesiodistal crown dimension for all teeth, except for the maxillary second and third molars, was measured on plaster casts using a digital caliper to the

A subgingival crown-root fracture presents a restorative problem to the clinician because restoration is complicated by the need to maintain the health of the periodontal tissues. If the remaining portion of the root is thought to be enough to support a definitive restoration, the root may be extruded by orthodontic forced eruption after root canal treatment. Extrusion enables the remaining root portion to be elevated above the epithelial attachment. Endodontic posts may be useful in exerting vertical forces to the root for extrusion without buccal tipping. The following case shows multidiscip
