OBJECTIVE: To determine whether ABO-incompatible (ABOi) kidney transplantation can be performed safely and result in acceptable posttransplantation outcomes.
DESIGN: Prospective study.
SETTING: Transplantation center.
PATIENTS: In the 1½ years of a new program, 18 patients with renal failure and an ABOi living kidney donor were included in the study. All donors and recipients were of incompatible blood types and underwent transplantation beginning in June 2008.

Chronic irreversible rejection is a major cause of graft loss and retransplantation after orthotopic liver allotransplantation. This paper reports the clinical syndrome of fulminant hepatic failure (FHF) following liver transplantation. FHF was defined as the sudden onset of liver failure [encephalopathy and prolonged International Normalised Ratio (INR)] without arterial thrombosis in the setting of a liver allograft.
