The novel proteomic signature for cardiac allograft vasculopathy.

AIMS: Cardiac allograft vasculopathy (CAV) is the major long-term complication after heart transplantation, leading to mortality and re-transplantation. As available non-invasive biomarkers are scarce for CAV screening, we aimed to identify a proteomic signature for CAV. METHODS AND RESULTS: We measured urinary proteome by capillary electrophoresis coupled with mass spectrometry in 217 heart transplantation recipients (mean age: 55.0 ± 14.4 years; women: 23.5%), including 76 (35.0%) patients with CAV diagnosed by coronary angiography. We randomly and evenly grouped participants into the deriv

Risk factors for cardiovascular disease in patients with metabolic-associated fatty liver disease: a machine learning approach.

BACKGROUND: Nonalcoholic fatty liver disease is associated with an increased cardiovascular disease (CVD) risk, although the exact mechanism(s) are less clear. Moreover, the relationship between newly redefined metabolic-associated fatty liver disease (MAFLD) and CVD risk has been poorly investigated. Data-driven machine learning (ML) techniques may be beneficial in discovering the most important risk factors for CVD in patients with MAFLD. METHODS: In this observational study, the patients with MAFLD underwent subclinical atherosclerosis assessment and blood biochemical analysis. Patients we

Development and validation of prediction models for gestational diabetes treatment modality using supervised machine learning: a population-based cohort study.

BACKGROUND: Gestational diabetes (GDM) is prevalent and benefits from timely and effective treatment, given the short window to impact glycemic control. Clinicians face major barriers to choosing effectively among treatment modalities [medical nutrition therapy (MNT) with or without pharmacologic treatment (antidiabetic oral agents and/or insulin)]. We investigated whether clinical data at varied stages of pregnancy can predict GDM treatment modality. METHODS: Among a population-based cohort of 30,474 pregnancies with GDM delivered at Kaiser Permanente Northern California in 2007-2017, we sel

[Prediction of the species distribution of Cryptococcus neoformans throughout Turkey].

Cryptococcus neoformans is a human pathogenic yeast that causes life-threatening infections especially in immunosuppressed patients. The environmental isolation of C.neoformans from Turkey was reported as early as 2004, although this was mostly from Eucalyptus camaldulensis colonization. Successful isolations were also reported from pomegranate (Punica granatum), oriental plane (Platanus orientalis), pine tree (Pinaceae), chestnut (Castanea sativa) and salt cedar (Tamarix hispida). The investigation of the relationship between the bioclimatic factors affecting the environmental isolation sites

Predicting patient survival after liver transplantation using evolutionary multi-objective artificial neural networks.

OBJECTIVE: The optimal allocation of organs in liver transplantation is a problem that can be resolved using machine-learning techniques. Classical methods of allocation included the assignment of an organ to the first patient on the waiting list without taking into account the characteristics of the donor and/or recipient. In this study, characteristics of the donor, recipient and transplant organ were used to determine graft survival. We utilised a dataset of liver transplants collected by eleven Spanish hospitals that provides data on the survival of patients three months after their operat

Artificial Intelligence Enabled Dielectric Fingerprinting of Arrhythmogenic Substrates: A Precision Paradigm for Tissue Characterization Guided Cardiac Electrophysiology.

BACKGROUND: Electrical and dielectric properties of the myocardium depend on its composition, fibrosis, edema, ischemia, and heat damage, and hence may play an important role in defining the electrophysiologic substrate. Local impedance and other impedance-based methods give information about these parameters that is available to clinicians, but not direct or substitutable for intrinsic conductivity and permittivity of the tissue. The use of artificial intelligence has been thoroughly studied for the ECGs, electrograms, images, and computational data analysis, but not for dielectric or impedan

Construction and external validation of radiomics models to detect primary prostate cancer with machine learning: a multicenter study based on 68Ga-PSMA PET/CT.

OBJECTIVE: Recent studies have shown that 68Ga-prostate-specific membrane antigen (68Ga-PSMA) positron emission tomography/computed tomography (PET/CT) can open a non-invasive diagnostic pathway in prostate cancer (PCa). However, the relatively small number of enrolled patients in these studies limits statistical validation and causes bias to some extent. In addition, the performance of 68Ga-PSMA PET/CT radiomics analysis in detecting PCa has not been widely evaluated. Hence, the present multicenter study endeavored to develop and validate radiomics models based on 68Ga-PSMA PET/CT for the det

Predicting HIV viral non-suppression in Uganda: development and validation of machine learning and risk stratification models using routine EMR data.

BACKGROUND: Viral non-suppression is the primary actionable risk state in routine HIV care, yet most individuals are identified after virological failure and/or drug resistance, rather than proactively. In Uganda and similar resource-limited settings, routine electronic medical records (EMR) are collected at scale but remain underused for targeted, data-enabled risk stratification. We aimed to develop and internally validate machine learning and regularized regression models for predicting viral non-suppression using routine monitoring data. METHODS: We developed and internally validated pred

Machine Learning-Based Risk Prediction of In-Hospital Mortality in Patients With Non-ST-Elevation Acute Coronary Syndrome at Various Stages of the Diagnostic Process: Observational Study.

BACKGROUND: Despite advances in understanding and treating non-ST-elevation acute coronary syndrome (NSTE-ACS), patients continue to experience high rates of adverse outcomes, particularly those with non-ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction, which remains a leading cause of cardiovascular mortality. Existing risk models may not fully reflect contemporary patient populations due to substantial changes in clinical profiles. Developing new machine learning (ML)-based risk calculators may improve the prediction of in-hospital mortality (IHM) at different stages of the diagnostic process, and

Machine-learning approach to dissect the clinical heterogeneity of IBD-associated fatigue.

OBJECTIVE: Extreme and persistent fatigue affects >50% of individuals with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), with similar prevalence across many common immune-mediated inflammatory diseases (IMIDs). Despite its ubiquity, human scientific studies have yet to fully explain the mechanistic basis of this complex symptom. One fundamental reason is our inability to account for the clinical heterogeneity and multifactorial nature of fatigue. METHODS AND ANALYSIS: We present the conceptual machine-learning (ML) framework to dissect fatigue using one of the largest prospectively captured, real-world p

Predicting Frailty Trajectories Using Interpretable Machine Learning Among Older Adults Following Hip Surgery: Prospective Longitudinal Study.

BACKGROUND: Postoperative frailty is highly prevalent among older adults undergoing hip surgery and is closely linked to poor clinical outcomes. Despite growing interest in understanding its progression, the temporal patterns of frailty remain underexplored. Moreover, there is a lack of validated models that can predict frailty trajectories and stratify patients by risk in the early postoperative period. OBJECTIVE: This study aimed to identify distinct frailty trajectories within 6 months following hip surgery in older adults and to explore their associated predictors. An interpretable machin

Optimizing lakeside buffers and extending ecological redlines to key rivers: A multi-scale buffer and causal identification for diagnosing water quality drivers in a plateau lake, China.

Elucidating the spatiotemporal evolution of water quality and its driving mechanisms is essential for the sustainable management of basin water resources in plateau lakes. Taking Dianchi Lake-a typical plateau lake in the Yunnan-Guizhou Plateau, China-as the study area, monthly water quality data from 10 monitoring sites (2001-2019) were analyzed. A single-factor assessment combined with an optimized Water Quality Index (WQI) was used to characterize spatiotemporal variability. To systematically investigate the complex driving mechanisms involving natural (vegetation, hydrology, climate) and a
