Foreign-body embolization is not an uncommon occurrence. However, to our knowledge, there are only ten reported cases of needle embolization associated with intravenous drug use. We report the sudden death of a 49-year-old white male with a known history of crack cocaine abuse. At autopsy, suspicious needle marks were noted on the right lower extremity. PURPOSE: To report an unusual case of orbital floor implant migration across the ethmoidal sinuses and nasal septum.
METHOD: Case report. A 61-year-old woman with a history of right orbital floor fracture repair 25 years earlier is described.
RESULTS: The patient presented with sinus congestion and difficulty breathing through the right nostril. Computed tomographic scan disclosed medial migration of the right orbital floor implant across the ethmoidal sinuses and nasal septum. Recent experience and a review of the recent literature shows that this is not always the case. Simon nitinol vena caval filters were placed percutaneously in 20 patients. Follow-up (average, 14 months) data were available for 16 patients, and four patients were lost to follow-up. Twenty-nine patients with osteogenesis imperfecta underwent 108 intramedullary roddings with 42 Bailey-Dubow rods and 66 nonelongating rods. The average age at insertion of the first rod was 5 years; average follow-up was 3.1 years (range 1-9 years). The overall complication rate was 60%-69% for Bailey-Dubow rods and 55% for nonelongating rods. Forty-seven percent of bones receiving rods required reoperation. Nonelongating rods had a 29% reoperation rate and a 24% replacement rate; Bailey-Dubow rods had a 19% reoperation rate and a 12% replacement rate.

We report a case of a shrapnel injury to the right thigh in which a foreign body had lodged in, and moved freely from, the femoral vein to the inferior vena cava and right atrium. However, instead of going into the right ventricle and pulmonary artery, it lodged itself in the superior vena cava-azygous junction. During the entire period, the patient remained asymptomatic and the foreign body was surgically retrieved uneventfully.

Duodenocaval fistula is a rare and potentially lethal condition. We report a case of a 61-year-old female with a duodenocaval fistula resulting from a fish bone perforation of the duodenum who survived with conservative treatment. To our knowledge, this is the first reported case of a duodenocaval fistula caused by a fish bone. Additionally, besides revising the other possible etiologies for duodenocaval fistulae, we also discuss its diagnosis and treatment.

Background: Laparoscopic adjustable gastric banding (LAGB) was once a widely adopted bariatric procedure due to its reversibility and minimally invasive nature.
