Comparative Evaluation of Dental and Craniofacial Injury Patterns in Conventional and Electric Two-Wheeler Riders in Urban Settings: A Cross-Sectional Survey-Based Study.

OBJECTIVE: To assess and compare the prevalence and pattern of dental and craniofacial injuries sustained by conventional two-wheeler riders versus electric two-wheeler (e-bike/e-scooter) riders involved in road traffic accidents (RTAs), and to evaluate the role of protective gear, riding practices, and behavioral factors on injury outcomes. MATERIAL AND METHODS: Six hundred and fifty-two riders (340 conventional two-wheelers, 312 e-bike/e-scooter) were examined and interviewed from an urban setting using a structured questionnaire. Data encompassed demographics, vehicle type, compliance with

The dental health status of dialysis patients.

BACKGROUND: The number of patients with kidney failure who require dialysis is growing by 10% to 15% annually, and the likelihood that dentists will treat such patients is also increasing. The dental care of patients undergoing dialysis can be complex, given the prevalence of comorbid conditions such as diabetes, hypertension, renal osteodystrophy and immunosuppression, the presence of nondental prosthetic devices, and the use of antihypertensives and anticoagulants or antiplatelet agents. These patients appear to be predisposed to a variety of dental problems such as periodontal disease, narr

Kinesiologic taping reduces morbidity after oral and maxillofacial surgery: a pooled analysis.

BACKGROUND: Postoperative morbidity is a major disadvantage after oral and maxillofacial (OMF) surgery, often caused by pain, trismus and swelling affecting patients' quality of life. The goal of this study was to examine the effect of kinesiologic taping (KT) on swelling, pain, trismus and patients' satisfaction after OMF surgery. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Performing a pooled analysis of 96 patients that were assigned for maxillofacial treatment (midface fractures n = 30, mandibular fractures n = 26, wisdom tooth removal n = 40) divided into treatment either with or without kinesiologic tape ap

Superiority of Cone Beam Computed Tomography Over Intraoral Radiography for Detection of Periapical Lucency in Complicated Fractures of the Maxillary Fourth Premolar Teeth in Dogs.

Apical periodontitis (AP) is commonly encountered in dogs. Cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) has emerged as the preferred imaging modality for identification and monitoring of AP in the human endodontic community. This study compared intraoral radiographs (IOR) and CBCT for identifying periapical lucency (PAL) (as a proxy for AP) of the maxillary fourth premolar teeth in dogs. All dogs had IOR and CBCT performed under general anesthesia. Imaging was evaluated retrospectively and compared. PAL was identified more frequently with CBCT, and results were statistically significant. No other stat

Dental Implant Restoration of a Mandibular Gunshot Injury: A Case Report.

Treatment of gunshot injuries to the maxillofacial region requires a multidisciplinary approach with specialist collaboration. The primary goals of treatment are to stabilize fractures, control bleeding, reconstruct the affected tissues, and restore function. This case report discusses a patient's treatment sequence resulting from a gunshot injury to the right posterior mandible. The initial stabilization and debridement, followed by mandibular augmentation, and finally prosthodontic restoration of lost teeth and the alveolar process are illustrated. Understanding the consequences of gunshot i

Unilateral mandibular widening with distraction osteogenesis.

Mandibular widening with distraction osteogenesis (DO) has been shown to be an acceptable and stable treatment modality. Mandibular widening with DO is useful in relieving crowding and for restoring a rotated mandibular arch segment to its original condition. This is especially true when a patient has a unilateral medial displacement of the proximal segment of the mandible or a unilateral Brodie bite. This case report shows the application of mandibular widening with DO for skeletal reconstruction and prosthodontic preparation in a patient with unilateral medial displacement of the proximal se

Barodontalgia among flyers: a review of seven cases.

Once referred to as "flyer's toothache," barodontalgia is defined as tooth pain occurring with changes in ambient pressure. It usually occurs in people who fly or dive. It can develop in conjunction with sinusitis, and in teeth experiencing pulpitis after restorative treatment, new and recurrent caries, intra-treatment endodontic symptoms, dental and periodontal cysts, or abscesses. Although the causal process of barodontalgia is not well understood, it may be related to pulpal hyperemia, or to gases that are trapped in the teeth following incomplete root canal treatment. Patients who are freq

Reactions of rat odontogenic tissues to heat.

Twenty-four Wistar rats were anesthetized and 200 degrees C heat was applied for 4 minutes to each mandibular left first molar. Eight of these rats were then killed at 2, 8, and 14 weeks. The subject and control teeth were radiographed and compared. They were then prepared for histologic evaluation and scored for levels of inflammation in both the pulpal and periradicular tissues. Furcal, interproximal, and apical radiographic changes were found at all three time intervals. These changes involved progressively larger percentages of teeth at 8 and 14 weeks. Histologically, complete necrosis and

Effect of short fiber-reinforced resin-based composite on fracture resistance of extensive direct restorations: A systematic review and network meta-analysis.

STATEMENT OF PROBLEM: Existing evidence suggests that conventional and bulk-fill resin composites (RCs) do not fully restore the physiological fracture resistance of teeth with extensive MOD cavities, leaving posterior restorations susceptible to bulk fracture, particularly in structurally compromised or endodontically treated teeth. Whether short fiber-reinforced resin-based composites (SFRCs) can address these limitations and improve fracture resistance remains unclear. PURPOSE: The purpose of this systematic review and network meta-analysis was to evaluate the fracture resistance of extens
