To assess heterosexual behavior of injecting drug users (IDUs) over time, we studied 174 IDUs with regard to their steady, casual, and commercial partners over a 1-year period. Patients (N = 71) from a sexually transmitted disease (STD) clinic in an urban setting were surveyed to determine their knowledge about acquired immune deficiency syndrome (AIDS) and attitudes toward condom use. PURPOSE: Design of intravaginal rings (IVRs) for delivery of antiretrovirals is often guided by in vitro release under sink conditions, based on the assumption that in vivo release will follow a similar release profile.
METHODS: We conducted a dose-ranging study in the female reproductive tract of pigtail macaques using matrix IVRs containing IQP-0528, a poorly soluble but highly potent antiretroviral drug with an IC90 of 146 ng/mL. BACKGROUND: Adjuvant tamoxifen reduces the risk of breast cancer recurrence in women with oestrogen receptor-positive breast cancer. Tamoxifen also increases the risk of postmenopausal bleeding, endometrial polyps, hyperplasia, and endometrial cancer.
