We report on an 82-year-old woman with typical features of Reiter's disease. Up to now, Reiter's disease has been considered to affect almost exclusively male patients in the third and fourth decades of life. Our observation and several recent reports in the literature suggest that Reiter's disease must also be considered in aged female patients.

The diagnosis of post-transfusion graft-versus-host disease (GVHD) in early period is critical for the prognosis of the patients. Exanthema and fever are the earliest symptom of the post-transfusion GVHD and usually precede the disturbance of the liver and bone marrow. We report here direct immunofluorescence studies of normal skin biopsies that exhibited only complement C3 staining in intercellular areas of epithelium with a view toward evaluating the significance of such findings. During a 5-year period, 11,000 skin biopsy specimens were examined for in vivo binding of immunoglobulins, fibrin, and complement C3 by means of defined direct immunofluorescence methods. A patient with erythema multiforme developed septicemia with two strains of Staphylococcus aureus. Six blood cultures, obtained during 14 days, yielded a mixture of both strains. The strains differed in the ability to hemolyze human erythrocytes, in the production of beta-lactamase and in the susceptibility to antibiotics and bacteriophages.
