BACKGROUND: Epithelial tumors of the epibulbar conjunctiva are rare in northern Europe. There are no reliable clinical criteria to predict the histological nature of the lesion. Even histologically proven malignant tumors typically do not show ocular invasion or metastasis.
PATIENTS AND METHODS: From 1980 to 1993, 112 epithelial epibulbar tumors were classified in our ophthalmopathological laboratory. Surgical management of 50 papillomas (mean age 46 +/- 18 years, 58% males), 49 conjunctival/corneal intraepithelial neoplasias (CIN) (28 mild, 21 severe) and 12 squamous cell carcinomas (mean ag

PURPOSE: To investigate patient-reported outcomes following lenticule extraction using the VISUMAX 800 laser (Carl Zeiss Meditec AG) as part of a post-market clinical follow-up (PMCF) study.
METHODS: This prospective, non-randomized, multicenter, international PMCF study was conducted from July 2021 to March 2023. Patients with myopia up to -10.00 diopters (D) and astigmatism up to 5.00 D underwent lenticule extraction using a VISUMAX 800 femtosecond laser. Patients completed an electronic patient-reported outcome questionnaire preoperatively and at the 6-month follow-up visit. The questionna

PURPOSE: To compare the safety and efficacy of standard 30 min epithelium-off cross-linking (CXL) versus photorefractive keratectomy (PRK) combined with accelerated epithelium-off cross-linking (AXL) for the treatment of progressive keratoconus (CXL-Plus).
METHODS: This study was a prospective multicentre comparative clinical study. A total of 125 eyes of 75 patients with grade 1 keratoconus and documented progression were divided into two groups. Group A included 58 eyes treated with standard CXL. Group B included 67 eyes treated with combined PRK and AXL. The recorded data included UDVA, CD

PURPOSE: To report outcomes in patients with progressive keratoconus who underwent a standardized protocol of transepithelial phototherapeutic keratectomy (t-PTK) laser followed by accelerated corneal collagen crosslinking (CXL).
METHODS: All patients with progressive keratoconus undergoing our protocol at a London clinic between 2019 and 2023 were included. The protocol involved t-PTK at 58-μm central ablation depth at a 9-mm treatment zone on the Schwind Amaris 1050RS platform. Preoperative K readings of 43.0D (both K1 and K2) were inputted for all cases. Patients then underwent CXL with a

A 48-year-old man had simultaneous bilateral photorefractive keratectomy (PRK). The surgeon who performed the PRK did not see the patient in follow-up, and there was confusion regarding the comanaging doctor. Therefore, the patient was not examined immediately postoperatively. Several days later, he was hospitalized for an unrelated, painful orthopedic problem and heavily sedated. Seven days after the PRK, an ophthalmologist was consulted for ocular irritation and discharge. Examination showed bilateral, purulent conjunctivitis and severe infectious keratitis in the left eye. The patient was t

Atopic dermatitis (AD) is a chronic inflammatory skin disorder characterized by pruritus, barrier dysfunction, and complex immune dysregulation. Phototherapy with narrow-band ultraviolet B (NB-UVB) or 308 nm excimer devices is clinically effective for AD, but the underlying mechanisms remain incompletely understood. In this study, we investigated the therapeutic effects of a 308-nm excimer lamp using a murine model of AD induced by topical application of the vitamin D3 analog MC903. C57BL/6 mice were treated with MC903 for 13 consecutive days, with or without irradiation by a 308-nm excimer la

RATIONALE: Glaucoma is the leading cause of irreversible blindness. Minimally invasive glaucoma surgery (MIGS) techniques, including those that open or enlarge Schlemm's canal (SC) behind the trabecular meshwork (SC-MIGS), have been introduced to help optimise control of intraocular pressure (IOP), which may slow the progression of glaucoma. This review supersedes and expands on the scope of a previous Cochrane review on ab interno trabecular bypass surgery with Trabectome for open-angle glaucoma.
OBJECTIVES: To assess the effects of minimally invasive Schlemm's canal surgery in comparison to

This paper presents a few clinical cases of patients with high ametropies and/or anisometropia, who underwent one or two surgical procedures in our clinic, in order to obtain independence of glasses or contact lenses. Twenty cases of high ametropies were included in our study, with or without astigmatism, with transparent lenses, who presented in our clinic for surgical treatment to correct their refractive errors. Postoperatively, we analyzed the results and took decisions for each case in particular; sometimes a second surgical procedure was needed.
