How does thermocycling affect the surface properties of ion-releasing bulk‑fill resin composites?

This in vitro study evaluated the effect of thermocycling on the surface properties of ion-releasing and non-ion-releasing bulk-fill resin composites. Disc-shaped samples were fabricated from three commonly used ion-releasing resin composites and one non-ion-releasing control (Filtek Bulk). The baseline readings were recorded for one-third of randomly selected samples, whereas the rest underwent thermocycling (5000 and 10,000 cycles between 5 and 55°C, 30 s dwell time, 10 s transfer). Surface morphology, topography, nanoindentation, contact angle, pH, and color changes were evaluated. Data wer

Blood transfusions using 27 gauge PICC lines: a retrospective clinical study on safety and feasibility.

BACKGROUND: Blood transfusions are required by most extremely low birth weight (ELBW) infants, but sometimes an adequate peripheral venous access cannot be achieved. Under these circumstances, we used 27 Gauge (G) peripherally inserted central catheter (PICC) lines that are routinely inserted on the second day of life. Due to their narrow lumen, hemolysis of transfused erythrocytes was a major concern. We therefore performed a retrospective study in ELBW infants to analyze the incidence, safety and feasibility of PRBC transfusions via 27 G PICC lines. METHODS: ELBW infants admitted from 08/20

The effect of energy application sequence on the microtensile bond strength of different C-factor cavity preparations.

This study investigated the effect of three equivalent radiant exposure energy application sequences (EASs): high intensity power (HIP: 1,177 mW/cm2, 40 seconds), low intensity power (LOP: 573 mW/cm2, 71 seconds) and ramp (RMP: 650 mW/cm2, 5 seconds, then the irradiance increases to 1047 mW/cm2, 37 seconds) on the microtensile bond strength (MTBS) in both low and high C-factor cavity preparations. Thirty Paradigm blocks (Z100) were mounted in stone, with their top surfaces parallel to the mounting block. High C-factor (HC = 3.8) Class I cavity preparations were then prepared in 15 of the Parad

A polymeric membrane dressing with antinociceptive properties: analysis with a rodent model of stab wound secondary hyperalgesia.

UNLABELLED: The putative antinociceptive properties of a commercially available polymeric membrane dressing were tested by using a hind limb penetrating stab wound model in which secondary hyperalgesia could be evaluated from the hind paw. We examined the responses to mechanical and thermal stimuli applied to the hind paw remote to 2 small penetrating stab wounds of the calf. Application of the polymeric membrane dressing, but not gauze dressing, significantly reduced the development of both mechanical and thermal hyperalgesia induced by the penetrating stab wounds. In addition, animals with s

From Last Resort to Standard of Care: The Evolution and Future of Transcatheter Aortic Valve Implantation.

Transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI) has evolved from an experimental, last-resort procedure in 2002 to a first-line therapy for aortic stenosis; moreover, the 2025 ESC/EACTS (European Society of Cardiology/European Association for Cardiothoracic Surgeons) guidelines marked a paradigm shift beyond traditional risk stratification toward earlier intervention and broader patient selection. Current evidence demonstrates the non-inferiority or superiority of TAVI to surgical aortic valve replacement across all risk categories, with the guidelines now recommending TAVI for patients aged ≥7

Preparation, characterization, and performance evaluation of a controlled-release inhibitor-enhanced nitrogen fertilizer.

Improving nitrogen fertilizer use efficiency while reducing nitrogen losses is a major challenge for sustainable crop production. In this study, a controlled-release inhibitor-enhanced nitrogen fertilizer (CYRF) was developed by integrating a polyurethane controlled-release membrane with a 3,4-dimethylpyrazole phosphate (DMPP) nitrification-inhibitor layer. Its structural characteristics, nutrient release behavior, and nitrogen-regulating performance were evaluated using scanning electron microscopy, energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy, static water incubation, soil incubation at different te

3D Microscale Mechanical Simulations of Hydrogel Coated Electrospun Meshes.

Electrospun fiber meshes have long served as biomaterials in a wide range of biomedical applications due to their functional similarities to extracellular matrix and highly tunable properties. Altering the mechanical behaviors of individual fibers and their microarchitecture (e.g.; diameter, crimp, orientation, density) can in principle be used to control bulk level behaviors. Moreover, electrospun meshes are often combined with softer coatings and hydrogels to control surface interactions with body tissues. Yet, fully optimizing their behaviors for specific applications remains an elusive tar

3D Printed Human Amnion-Based Bioactive Hybrid Dressings for Effective Management of Complex Infected Wounds.

Chronic wounds are often afflicted with persistent infection, excessive exudate accumulation, and delayed healing, leading to prolonged hospitalization. Excess moisture overhydrates the wound, promotes infection, and causes edema. Peri-wound skin may develop rashes, immersion injuries, and epidermal detachment. Nutrient-rich exudates foster microbial growth, increasing the infection risk. High bacterial loads lead to crust formation, continuous leakage, and foul odor, further complicating healing. To address this challenge, we developed a 3D printed amnion-based hybrid dressing comprising a re

A biocompatible, eco-friendly 3D-printed PCL-NIPUA resin for macular bucking devices in myopic tractional maculopathy.

Pathological myopia, characterized by excessive axial elongation, posterior staphyloma (PS) and retinal-choroidal degeneration, underlies sight-threatening conditions such as myopic traction maculopathy (MTM) and macular atrophy. Macular buckling (MB) surgery has demonstrated significant efficacy in managing MTM-associated pathologies, including macular schisis, macular holes, and macular retinal detachment. However, its widespread clinical adoption remains limited due to suboptimal material properties and geometrical design constraints of existing buckling devices. Advancements in imaging mod

Suspensory fixation for bone transfer procedures in shoulder instability is superior to screws in an angled construct: a biomechanical analysis.

BACKGROUND: The Latarjet procedure is a common bony augmentation procedure for anterior shoulder instability. Historically, screw fixation is used to secure the coracoid graft to the anterior glenoid surface; however, malpositioning of the graft leads to oblique screw insertion that contributes to complications. Suture buttons (SBs) are a more recent fixation technique that have not been studied alongside standard screw fixation in the context of biomechanical models of angulated fixation. This study aims to compare the biomechanical strength of single and double, screw and SB fixation at vari
