May-Thurner syndrome, or iliac vein compression syndrome (IVCS), is a rare but well-described entity. It refers to the formation of venous thrombus caused by compression of the left iliac vein, most commonly between the right iliac artery and lumbar vertebrae. Massive retroperitoneal haemorrhage because of adrenal bleeding following blunt trauma is a rare entity. We describe a 23-year-old woman with massive retroperitoneal haemorrhage as a result of inferior adrenal artery (IAA) disruption following a car accident. Superselective transcatheter embolization of the IAA using polyvinyl alcohol particles was performed successfully to control haemorrhage. To our knowledge, this is the second report of massive retroperitoneal haemorrhage caused by IAA disruption successfully treated by transcatheter embolization.

PURPOSE: We assess the benefit of retroperitoneal lymph node dissection for adult paratesticular rhabdomyosarcoma.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: A total of 19 adults with paratesticular rhabdomyosarcoma who underwent retroperitoneal lymph node dissection between 1980 and 1997 comprise our study population. We describe our experience with laparoscopic retroperitoneal lymph node dissection in 19 patients with non-seminomatous germ cell tumors. Twelve patients had stage I disease with no clinical evidence (CT-scan, ultrasound, tumor markers) of metastases; 7 patients (stage IIb=2, stage IIc=5) had residual tumor after chemotherapy but with negative tumor markers. The decrease of tuberculotic diseases was continuous in the past years. This statement relates to pulmonalis as well as to extrapulmonalis tbc. The authors want to call attention to the possibility of the varied and more rarely appearing extrapulmonalis manifestation. In the first of their cases the burst of spondylitis tbc, and in the other one the very rare spleen tbc--which was made probably clinicum and later by the US abdomen examination--caused differential diagnostic problem.

Two cases of arterial injury of the iliac arteries during surgery of the lumbar disc are presented. Both patients were successfully operated, in the first case a primary repair was accomplished, the second patient was treated by means of an ileo-femoral bypass graft. A comment of the pathophysiology, diagnostic and surgical management of this unusual complication is presented.

We describe a rare case of extragenital granuloma inguinale that mimicked a soft tissue neoplasm in an 18-year-old pregnant woman who presented with cervical and labial ulcers. An abdominal gunshot wound in pregnancy warrants prompt surgical exploration but does not mandate uterine evacuation. Despite an entry and exit bullet wound to the uterus an apparent desire for pregnancy termination, a conservative approach was adopted with primary repair of the uterus, in conjunction with surgical repair of associated injuries.

Twenty-five patients with nonseminomatous germ cell carcinoma of the testis underwent CT and nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) of the retroperitoneum followed by radical retroperitoneal lymph node dissection for surgical proof of metastatic disease.
