The predominant causes of acute mechanical small bowel obstruction in geriatric patients are adhesions and hernias, which is not much different than in other adult age groups. Unusual etiologies may be encountered, such as volvulus or gallstone ileus, but a displaced feeding gastrostomy tube is a distinctly rare cause of intestinal obstruction which needs to be considered by emergency physicians as it may be increasingly encountered.

: Penetrating injuries of the heart caused by migrating needles have been rarely described. They usually occur accidentally or are self-inflicted in the setting of an underlying psychiatric disorder. We present an unusual case of cardiac tamponade caused by a sewing needle that migrated to the heart from the chest wall through the lung. The lesions were successfully repaired through a median sternotomy without cardiopulmonary bypass. The pathophysiological mechanism and the pertinent literature are briefly analysed.

Implant breakage is a serious complication after cephalomedullary nailing for unstable intertrochanteric fracture. Failure usually occurs at the lag screw hole in the nail body. On the other hand, lag screw failure is extremely rare and occurs around the nail-lag screw junction. We experienced rare mechanical failure of the Intertan nail, which showed breakage at the lag screw hole and failure of the integrated compression screw underneath the main lag screw.

BACKGROUND AND STUDY AIMS: A new esophageal stent with two anti-migration features was developed to minimize migration. The aim of this study was to evaluate the clinical efficacy and safety of this stent in patients with malignant dysphagia.
PATIENTS AND METHODS: A total of 40 patients with dysphagia due to a malignant obstruction of the esophagus were prospectively enrolled in this cohort study.

We are presenting a nightmare case of successful retrieval of the broken distal tip of a multipurpose catheter which embolised into the left pulmonary artery (LPA) during atrial septal defect device closure. Embolization of coronary artery stents is a rare but well-recognized complication of percutaneous coronary intervention. Although intracardiac stent migration carries a significant risk to the patient, peripheral embolization is largely benign despite carrying a theoretical risk of distal ischemia. Furthermore, stents lost to the periphery are often never found. Here, we describe a case of an embolized stent to the peroneal artery which was accurately located using on-table fluoroscopy and ultrasound duplex.

Although foreign body ingestion and impaction in the pharynx or hypopharynx are quite commonly encountered at our institution, foreign body impaction in tongue tissue is rare.
