In a search of features that might be relevant to the understanding of the hyperbilirubinaemia of infants with hypertrophic pyloric stenosis (HPS), we examined the duodenal fluid in 11 infants with this condition. Four (36%) had an unconjugated bilirubin level above 2.5 mg/dl in the serum. Levels of electrolytes, bicarbonate, liver function tests and cholesterol were similar in the jaundiced and the non-icteric infants. Hepatic tissues from nine patients who had fatal Rocky Mountain spotted fever were examined in sequential sections by brightfield and immunofluorescence microscopy for histologic lesions and for coincidence of these lesions with the distribution of Rickettsia rickettsii. BACKGROUND: Patients with advanced cholangiocarcinoma (CCA) often experience malignant obstructive jaundice (MOJ), which significantly impacts both their quality of life and prognosis. BACKGROUND/AIMS: Frank intrabiliary rupture (IBR) is a serious complication that occurs in 3-17% of patients. The aim of this study was to identify independent predictors of frank IBR of hepatic hydatid cysts (HHC).
METHODOLOGY: Some 741 patients with HHC underwent surgery for HHC between 1965 and 2000. Patient and cyst characteristics were subjected to univariate and multivariate analysis to identify independent predictors of frank IBR.

Drug-induced liver injury due to celecoxib, a first generation Cox-2 inhibitor, has been rarely reported. We describe one case of severe and prolonged cholestasis after treatment with celecoxib for 12 days in a young woman with no evidence of other causes of liver disease or allergy. Jaundice lasted for 3 months, pruritus and abnormal liver biochemistry persisted for 18 months after stopping the drug. Lisinopril is an ACE inhibitor commonly used in the treatment of cardiovascular and renal disease. Liver and biliary tree scintigraphy and magnetic resonance cholangiography (MRC) have taken the place of the duodenal tube test (DTT) in the study of cholestatic jaundice due to extrahepatic biliary atresia (EBA).
