[Clinical testing of a new local corticoid: desoximethasone].

In a double-blind comparative trial on 37 patients with symetric dermatoses, the clinical effect of desoximetasone (0.25%) has been compared to fluocinolone acetonide (0.2%). After 7 days of treatment an improvement or cure of the lesions could be seen in 34 patients treated with desoximetasone, and only on 22 patients treated with fluocinolone acetonide (0.2%). The better effect of desoximetasone was especially evident on erythema and pruritus. Differences between the drugs were statistically significant.

The systematic evaluation of the skin in children.

A large proportion of children seen by primary care pediatricians involve problems related to the skin. In this chapter, the importance of history and, particularly, physical examination in the diagnosis of various skin disorders is discussed. The ability to describe a rash using proper terminology will help narrow the differential and enable one to communicate what is seen to other physicians. The various primary and secondary lesions that may be present will be described along with various dermatoses as examples. Four common skin disorders that often fool the primary care physician are also

Mucha-Habermann disease: a diagnostic possibility for prolonged fever associated with systemic and skin symptoms.

The severe form of Mucha-Habermann disease with systemic symptoms is a rarely diagnosed disease which should be considered for children with prolonged fever, impaired general condition, skin manifestations and elevated C-reactive protein concentration and/or erythrocyte sedimentation rate. Eleven cases have been described previously in children. We describe two acute episodes of this syndrome in a three-year-old child; the diagnosis was based on clinical, dermatological and histological findings. During both episodes, the fever lasted for more than one week, C-reactive protein concentration in

Psoriasis in children.

Psoriasis in children 16 years of age and younger is common. Frequently the disease is associated with a positive family history and often appears as acute guttate psoriasis. Acute guttate psoriasis is seen commonly after streptococcal infection of the upper respiratory tract, but may be associated with other viral and bacterial diseases as well. Acute guttate psoriasis responds well to treatment but often recurs as more typical small- or large-plaque disease. The treatment of childhood psoriasis should be simple and, if the disease is significant, carried out in the hospital. Results are much

Acquired epidermodysplasia verruciformis presenting as isolated genital hypopigmentation in a renal transplant recipient: a rare case report.

Epidermodysplasia verruciformis (EV) is a rare genodermatosis resulting from mutations in the EVER1/EVER2 genes, that increase vulnerability to beta-human papillomavirus (β-HPV) infection. The acquired form (AEV) develops in immunocompromised individuals, particularly organ transplant recipients, and typically manifests as pityriasis versicolor-like macules on sun-exposed areas. However, lesions confined to non-sun-exposed regions, especially the genitalia, are exceedingly uncommon and may be misdiagnosed. We report the case of a 38-year-old woman, nine years post-renal transplantation and on …

The advent of targeted biological agents has revolutionized the treatment approach for immune-mediated inflammatory diseases (IMIDs) in rheu … ions, histopathological findings, and treatment outcomes were documented. The PRs observed included pityriasis rosea-like drug reactions, eczematous reactions, lichenoid drug eruptions, and fixed drug eruptions. Histopathological examination revealed characteristic patterns corresponding to each PR type. Management strategies involved discontinuation or swit …

Viral reactivation following COVID-19 vaccination: a review of the current literature.

Currently, four vaccines for COVID-19 have been licensed by the European Medicines Agency: two viral vector-based vaccines and two mRNA-based vaccines. Since their approval, several cutaneous reactions related to vaccination have been reported in the literature. Among these, viral reactivations are one of the most frequent. The aim of this article was to investigate the current literature regarding viral reactivations following COVID-19 vaccination, focusing attention on pityriasis rosea (PR), herpes zoster and herpes simplex. A comprehensive literature search using various databases was perfo…
