The perioperative management of pulmonary hypertension in a patient with Eisenmenger syndrome, the most advanced form of associated pulmonary artery hypertension (PAH), who required a sigmoidectomy is presented. The treatment for pulmonary hypertension was switched from oral sildenafil to intravenous epoprostenol to avoid the unexpected discontinuation of vasodilation during the perioperative period. The scheduled perioperative conversion should be considered for patients with severe PAH undergoing major abdominal surgery to ensure the stabilization of pulmonary and systemic hemodynamics.

It is reported on the experience with ureterosigmoideostomy in 59 patients. Because of the good long-term results with a maximum follow-up time of 20 years especially in patients suffering from benign congenital anomaly the authors emphasize the current value of ureterosigmoideostomy especially in the treatment of bladder extrophy and aplasy of the urethra and urethral sphincter. In 3 female patients some years after operation a healthy child was born on the natural way.

We investigated sexual and urinary dysfunction following surgery for sigmoid colon cancer. Thirteen (46.4 per cent) of the 28 male patients with a normal sexual life prior to surgery could no longer ejaculate, but all could maintain erection. With the extension of lymph node dissection, the incidence of a disappearance of ejaculation tended to increase. We operated on 138 patients for intestinal obstruction. The different causes are discussed and their pattern of occurrence is compared with that reported from England and other African countries. The 27.6% mortality rate was closely associated with the 28.2% incidence of gangrene. Factors which may lower this high mortality rate are enumerated.

Sixteen cases of benign extrinsic lesions involving the colon and producing roentgen findings simulating a neoplasm are reported. The literature is reviewed. In 5 cases the pathologic process proved to be an inflamed epiploic appendage, in 4 a "congenital" band, in 3 adhesions, in 2 pancreatitis and, in one case each, an old pericecal abscess and an endometriosis.

This study attempted to clarify the clinical course of solitary extramedullary plasmacytoma after radiation or surgical therapy given with curative intent.

This study set out to determine whether extending the length of oral contrast administration in minimal preparation CT of the colon improves faecal tagging. OBJECTIVE: To determine the long-term results of constructing a sigmoid neobladder after radical cystectomy for transitional cell carcinoma (TCC) of the urinary bladder.
PATIENTS AND METHODS: The study included 170 patients with TCC of the bladder and a normal sigmoid colon. After radical cystectomy the neobladder was formed by completely detubularizing an isolated sigmoid colon segment.
