METHODS AND MATERIALS: Between 1964 and 2000, 273 patients with tumors of the nasopharynx, paranasal sinuses, nasal cavity, and hard palate adenoid cystic carcinomas were treated with curative intent and had radiation fields that included the optic nerves and/or chiasm. A 23-year-old patient presented with a group of 17 reddish-brown papules and nodules on the left shoulder lasting for 4 years. The histopathologic examination after a punch biopsy was repetitively consistent with the diagnosis of fibrous histiocytoma (FH). We use the term agminate histiocytomas for the first time to stress the presence of grouped lesions in one skin segment. Intralesional corticosteroids and cryotherapy were partially successful in this patient.

A total of 15 adrenocortical carcinomas with myxoid differentiation from 15 ferrets were evaluated in this retrospective study. Two cases of spinal cord compression secondary to steroid-induced epidural lipomatosis in systemic juvenile rheumatoid arthritis (JRA) patients are reported. This complication of prolonged corticosteroid therapy has not been described previously in children with JRA. Epidural lipomatosis should be considered in the differential diagnosis of JRA patients receiving high-dose and/or prolonged corticosteroid therapy who present with neurologic signs and symptoms referable to the spinal cord.

A 58-year-old white woman with hypertension and severe hypokalemia was found to have a carcinoma of the left adrenal gland. Plasma renin activity was constantly under the normal limit, while plasma aldosterone levels were pathologically elevated. Plasma cortisol (8:00 a.m.) and excretion rates of urinary free cortisol were within the normal range. After an adrenalectomy, relapsing excessive aldosterone secretion was successfully treated with opDDD (Lysodrene). Ten months after the diagnosis was established, the patient died from a bleeding liver metastasis.

To evaluate the frequency of associated endocrine disorders, 26 patients with the Zollinger-Ellison syndrome were restudied in a uniform screening programme. The examinations were directed primarily against disorders in the pituitary, parathyroid, thyroid, adrenal cortex, and endocrine pancreas. Fluocinolone acetonide cream is a new, potent topical corticosteroid. When used in conjunction with an occlusive plastic film dressing, herein described, it is highly effective in the treatment of psoriasis of the glabrous skin, pustular and paronychial psoriasis, neurodermatitis, and lichen planus. Psoriasis of the intertriginous areas responds to the local use of the fluocinolone cream alone. Relapses on cessation of treatment respond as a rule to retreatment.Indications, limitations, reactions and contraindications to this form of treatment are discussed.
