Plantar pressure (PP) is a key biomechanical parameter for assessing foot function, gait abnormalities, and injury risk. Although body mass index (BMI) correlates with PP magnitude/distribution during gait, it is a coarse metric that collapses body composition into a ratio of mass to height, implicitly assuming uniform body proportions and mass distribution. The effects of individualized anthropometric parameters on PP signatures remain under-characterized, with a gap in incorporating body-shape measures beyond BMI. This exploratory study examined associations among anthropometric measurements

OBJECTIVES: The psychophysical demands of playing a musical instrument at a professional level pose significant challenges to the musculoskeletal system. Maintaining a position adapted to the instrument for long hours, every day and for many years may result in future postural abnormalities and chronic health problems. This study evaluated the 3-dimensional spinal and pelvic posture of professional saxophone players compared to non-musician controls.
MATERIAL AND METHODS: The study included 60 men aged 20-30 years: 30 professional saxophone players with an average playing experience of mean (

The thrower's oblique rotator cuff (TORC) view was developed to more optimally visualize the commonly injured posterosuperior rotator cuff and capsulolabral structures in overhead athletes. The purpose is to evaluate whether the addition of the TORC view to standard MRI sequences improves the diagnostic evaluation of rotator cuff pathology and labral abnormalities in throwing athletes. Shoulder MRIs of MLB pitchers ordered by team physicians from 1/1/2019 to 12/31/2021 were retrospectively reviewed. The inclusion criteria were standard and TORC MRI sequences per individual player and players a

The systemic associations with knee osteoarthritis (KOA) are incompletely understood. This study explores aortic disease, musculoskeletal and organ findings in patients with KOA in relation to their symptoms or radiographic abnormalities. Full body computed tomography (CT) scans of 255 IMI-APPROACH participants were investigated using an automated analysis of multislice CT (Voronoi Health Analytics) that extracts aortic size and calcifications, and volumes and densities of bones, muscles, fat compartments and thoracic and abdominal organs. The CT measurements were primarily related to KOA as m

US is an effective tool for appraising acute tendon injury, allowing rapid evaluation of symptoms at bedside and paving the way for prompt d … ic rehabilitation regimen. Finally, US can narrow the differential diagnosis and rule out mimics of musculoskeletal abnormalities. Nonmusculoskeletal conditions, such as deep venous thrombosis and a ruptured Baker cyst, can manifest with the same clinical presentation as acute calf injuries and must be considered in a patient presenting with sudden calf, posterior leg, or ankl …

AIM: Height loss that occurs with aging is a common phenomenon associated with musculoskeletal abnormalities, such as osteoporosis and sarcopenia. Notably, such height loss is also associated with poor outcomes, including cardiovascular disease and mortality. In this study, we investigated the relationship between height loss and kidney outcome.
METHODS: This longitudinal study includes data from the Japan Specific Health Checkups Study from 2008 to 2014. Height loss was estimated using the first three visits (visits 1-3), and kidney outcomes were evaluated using data from the following visit…

BACKGROUND: Monoallelic and biallelic TTN truncating variants (TTNtv) may be responsible for a wide spectrum of musculoskeletal and cardiac disorders with different age at onset. Although the prevalence of heterozygous TTNtv is relatively high in the general population, cardiac phenotyping (mainly cardiomyopathies, CMPs) in biallelic titinopathy has rarely been described in children.
METHODS: We reviewed the medical records of pediatric patients with biallelic TTNtv and cardiac involvement. Clinical exome sequencing excluded pathogenic/likely pathogenic variants in major CMP genes.

BACKGROUND: A proposal has recently been advanced to change the traditional definition of nonalcoholic fatty liver disease to metabolic-associated fatty liver disease (MAFLD), to reflect the cluster of metabolic abnormalities that may be more closely associated with cardiovascular risk. Long coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) is a smoldering inflammatory condition, characterized by several symptom clusters. This study aims to determine the prevalence of MAFLD in patients with postacute COVID syndrome (PACS) and its association with other PACS-cluster phenotypes.
METHODS: We included 235 pati

The prevalence of childhood and adolescent obesity has significantly increased in the United States and worldwide since the 1970s, a trend that has been accelerated by the COVID-19 pandemic. The complications of obesity range from negative effects on the cardiovascular, endocrine, hepatobiliary, and musculoskeletal systems to higher rates of mental health conditions such as depression and eating disorders among affected individuals. Among adolescent girls, childhood obesity has been associated with the earlier onset of puberty and menarche, which can result in negative psychosocial consequence

BACKGROUND: An understanding of femoral anteversion and neck-shaft angle (NSA) is essential to deliver optimal orthopaedic surgical care. Despite the importance, there is little research examining the relationship between femoral anteversion and the NSA in an adult population. This study sought to determine if there is a correlation between femoral neck shaft angle and version in skeletally mature adults using computed tomography (CT) scanograms.
METHODS: Between January 2010 and June 2017, all skeletally mature patients who had received a CT scanogram of the lower extremity were reviewed. Ex

Kawasaki disease (KD) is associated with several musculoskeletal manifestations. Although arthritis has been reported to occur in 2.3-31% of children with KD, there is paucity of detailed studies on the subject. We report our experience on arthritis in children with KD. Data were collated from a review of records of patients diagnosed with KD and arthritis during the period January 1994-June 2019. Eight hundred sixty-five children (male:female 29:11) were diagnosed with KD during this period-of these, 40 (4.6%) had arthritis. Median day of diagnosis of KD was 17 days. Twenty-nine (72.5%), 8 (2

In an effort to develop quantitative biomarkers for degenerative joint disease and fill the void that exists for diagnosing, monitoring, and assessing the extent of whole joint degeneration, the past decade has been marked by a greatly increased role of noninvasive imaging. This coupled with recent advances in image processing and deep learning opens new possibilities for promising quantitative techniques. The clinical translation of quantitative imaging was previously hampered by tedious non-scalable and subjective image analysis. Osteoarthritis (OA) diagnosis using X-rays can be automated by
