Dental Management of Tatton-Brown-Rahman Syndrome: A Case Report.

Tatton-Brown-Rahman syndrome (TBRS) is a rare autosomal dominant overgrowth disorder caused by pathogenic variants in the DNMT3A gene and characterized by intellectual disability, behavioral abnormalities, craniofacial dysmorphism, and systemic comorbidities. Dental manifestations and management strategies in affected individuals remain poorly documented. This report is aimed at describing the dental findings and multidisciplinary management of a pediatric patient with TBRS, highlighting comprehensive dental rehabilitation under general anesthesia (GA). An 11-year-old Saudi female diagnosed wi

CBCT and modern intraoral scanners as tools for developing comprehensive, interdisciplinary treatment plans.

The aim of this narrative literature review is to present the possibilities of using cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) and 3D dental scanners to prepare comprehensive, interdisciplinary treatment plans. Scanners are instruments whose usage seems to be a key element of modern digital dentistry. Their importance in orthodontic treatment with overlay appliances, planning modern prosthetic treatments (CAD/CAM) and implantology cannot be overestimated. These scanners allow for accurate imaging of the tooth structures and their positioning independently in the maxilla and mandible as well as in t

Eruption disturbance in first molar and primary second molar caused by multiple compound odontomas: a case report.

Odontoma is an occasionally encountered condition that disturbs the eruption of adjacent teeth. Few reports have described multiple odontoma … molar gradually erupted after removal of the odontoma and excision of overlying gingiva around the tooth crown. The maxillary left second premolar spontaneously erupted at 9 years 6 months of age, but the impacted primary second molar and surrounding odontoma were located near the bottom of the maxillary sinus. The treatment plan was required to consider the …

[The modified lip-tooth-ridge classification: a guide for edentulous maxillary arches].

According to the width and height of the maxillary alveolar ridge, the maxillary edentulous jaws can be divided into three categories by using modified lip-tooth-ridge (MLTR) classification. Class Ⅰ is characterized by sufficient bone available for implants in the vertical and horizontal aspects and is suitable for fixed implant-supported prostheses. Class Ⅱ is characterized by sufficient bone amount available for implants in a horizontal aspect but insufficient for lip support and is suitable for a fixed detachable implant-supported prosthesis. Class Ⅲ is characterized by inadequate amount of

Infected Dentine Revisited.

Dentine becomes infected as a result of caries lesion formation on root surfaces and when lesions progress following cavitation of enamel lesions. However, this infection is unimportant because the driving force for lesion formation and progression is the overlying biofilm. This explains why root surface caries can be controlled by mechanical plaque control and fluoride, and restorations are not needed to arrest these lesions. Similarly, the infected dentine in cavitated coronal lesions does not have to be removed to arrest the lesion. If the lesion is either accessible or opened for cleaning

[Influence of smoking intoxicants on dental status. Literature search and own experience].

Amphetamines are phenylpropane derivatives belonging to the group of psychostimulating substances. Within the space of years, on account of their stimulating properties, they were used as treatment substances, e.g. in Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD ), in obesity as slimming substances, in preventing of paroxysmal drowsiness, as dilating bronchi substances, used as some dope in sports and willingly abused among drug addicts because of long lasting exciting euphoria after use. Methamphetamine, an amphetamine derivative, has even stronger and longer lasting effect. The study prese

Material properties of periodontal ligaments.

The mechanism of orthodontic teeth movement is not entirely explained. The principal reaction on tissues at the cellular and molecular level is initiated by the force applied to the tooth crown and transferred in turn upon the periodontal ligament (PDL). It seems, therefore, that the PDL and particularly its properties play a key role in bone remodelling. One of the more commonly used methods, which is capable of analysis of a wide range of orthodontic movements or distribution of stress and strain within teeth and periodontium, is the finite element method (FEM). Aiming to achieve the FEM mod…

Effect of diet on dental development in four species of catarrhine primates.

In this study, dental development is described in two pairs of closely related catarrhine primate species that differ in their degree of folivory: 1) Hylobates lar and Symphalangus syndactylus, and 2) Papio hamadryas hamadryas and Semnopithecus entellus. Growth increments in histological thin sections are used to reconstruct the chronology of dental development to determine how dental development is accelerated in the more folivorous species of each pair. Although anterior tooth formation appears to be unrelated to diet, both S. syndactylus and S. entellus initiate the slowest-forming molar ea

Pits and fissures: relative space contribution in fissures from sealants, prophylaxis pastes and organic remnants.

BACKGROUND: Previous studies by the authors have looked at the nature of the fissure system of human permanent molars and premolars, and has provided evidence for the presence of a prismless layer of enamel. It was noted during these studies that the fissure spaces were often occupied by material other than the fissure sealant. The aim of this study was to define these materials and to look at the percentage contribution of each to the sealed fissure space. METHODS: A sample of teeth, both molars and premolars, were sealed with an unfilled fissure sealant after prophylaxis with a coloured pro

A new method for casting discrepancy: some results for a phosphate-bonded investment.

OBJECTIVES: An accurate and realistic casting discrepancy method applicable to base metal alloys has hitherto been lacking. The purpose of this study was to develop a method for determining casting discrepancy free of interference from oxide, slag and surface defects, working under realistic conditions. In addition, a variable was sought that could be used for calibrating the casting process to allow for local errors. METHODS: A crown pattern was designed to incorporate circular V-grooves on the margin and the inside surface of the occlusal part for determination of the 'groove root diameter'

The influence of orthodontic treatment on previously traumatized permanent incisors.

The reaction of previously traumatized teeth to orthodontic force application was investigated. Four groups of children were examined: group T comprised 56 children who encountered trauma to their maxillary incisors; group O comprised 29 orthodontic patients with intact incisors; group TO comprised 28 previously traumatized orthodontic patients; and group C served as the control group (n = 26). Orthodontic treatment was restricted to tipping movement executed only by means of removable appliances. Groups T, O, and TO were followed up longitudinally by means of clinical and radiographic examina

Eruption of mandibular third molars after second-molar extractions: a radiographic study.

The purpose of the present study was to analyze the posteruptive contact relationship and inclination of mandibular third molars after extraction of second molars and to determine whether predictors could be formulated for the dental relationships observed. In all, 140 mandibular quadrants were evaluated from 95 sets of panoramic radiographs taken at the time of second molar extraction (T1) and at the time of final evaluation (T2). For analysis of a consecutive sample of patients, a subsample of 25 sets of radiographs from all the patients who had received such treatment during one calendar ye

Early Childhood Caries: A Family Centered Preventable Disease- Risk Determinants, Clinical Spectrum and Contemporary Management.

Early childhood caries (ECC) is encountered as a serious oral health issue, chiefly in deprived areas. ECC remains a global concern, troubling babies and pre-school-aged children across nations. The widespread nature of ECC is notable and it is reportedly found in approximately 85.0% of individuals from low socioeconomic backgrounds. Due to its origins and solutions that are developed within the family environment, ECC is often referred to as a family-centered disease. ECC is a condition that affects infants and toddlers, characterized by the presence of decayed, missing, or filled teeth in ch

Quantitative Evaluation of Caries and Calculus with Ultrahigh-Resolution Optical Coherence Tomography.

Dental caries on the crown's surface is caused by the interaction of bacteria and carbohydrates, which then gradually alter the tooth's structure. In addition, calculus is the root of periodontal disease. Optical coherence tomography (OCT) has been considered to be a promising tool for identifying dental caries; however, diagnosing dental caries in the early stage still remains challenging. In this study, we proposed an ultrahigh-resolution OCT (UHR-OCT) system with axial and transverse resolutions of 2.6 and 1.8 μm for differentiating the early-stage dental caries and calculus. The same teeth

The clinical significance and correlative signaling pathways of paired box gene 9 in development and carcinogenesis.

Paired box 9 (PAX9) gene belongs to the PAX family, which encodes a family of metazoan transcription factors documented by a conserved DNA binding paired domain 128-amino-acids, critically essential for physiology and development. It is primarily expressed in embryonic tissues, such as the pharyngeal pouch endoderm, somites, neural crest-derived mesenchyme, and distal limb buds. PAX9 plays a vital role in craniofacial development by maintaining the odontogenic potential, mutations, and polymorphisms associated with the risk of tooth agenesis, hypodontia, and crown size in dentition. The loss-o
