Prevalence of antibodies against some important disease agents in sera from racing camels in Abu Dhabi (United Arab Emirates) is reported. Antibodies against Brucella abortus were detected in 1.5% of racing camels, but only 0.76% had titres sufficient for the animals to be considered infected. Monitoring of variations in N-acetyl-beta-D-glucosaminidase (NAG) urinary activity, following renal transplantation, has been proposed for the early diagnosis of rejection episodes. In this study, the measurement of urinary NAG-B activity was conducted as a complement to total NAG (A + B) measurement, which is normally used alone. Between the years 1972 and 1979, 40,589 pregnant women were tested for rubella antibodies following suspected illness or exposure, using hemagglutination-inhibition (HI), complement fixation and staphylococcal absorption for determination of specific immunoglobulin M (IgM). Brucellosis is a disease caused by bacteria belonging to the genus Brucella, which is endemic in sub-Saharan African countries, including Zimbabwe. Zimbabwe has a widespread dairy industry with peri-urban dairy establishments built in order to improve milk availability to rural communities.
