Electronic momentary assessment of weather changes as a trigger of headaches in children.

BACKGROUND: Variables that are thought to precipitate migraine or tension-type headache episodes in children hitherto have only been studied using retrospective reports. As such, there is little empirical evidence to support the actual predictive association between presumed headache triggers and actual headache occurrence in children. OBJECTIVE: The present study sought to determine if fluctuations in weather, a commonly reported headache trigger in children, predict increased likelihood of headache occurrence when evaluated using rigorous prospective methodology ("electronic momentary asses

Intramolecular hydrogen bonding in disubstituted ethanes. A comparison of NH...O- and OH...O- Hydrogen bonding through conformational analysis of 4-amino-4-oxobutanoate (succinamate) and monohydrogen 1,4-butanoate (monohydrogen succinate) anions.

Relative strengths of amide NH...O- and carboxyl OH...O- hydrogen bonds were investigated via conformational analysis of succinamate and monohydrogen succinate anions with the aid of vicinal proton-proton NMR couplings and B3LYP DFT quantum mechanical calculations for a variety of solvents. New experimental results for succinamate are compared with those obtained from previous studies of monohydrogen succinate. While some computational results for monohydrogen succinate were published previously, the results contained herein are the product of a more powerful methodology than that used earlier

Comparison of methods for determining parameters related to ankle joint quasi-stiffness during quiet standing.

Ankle joint quasi-stiffness is a measure representing the control of quiet standing. Here we investigated three methods for determining parameters associated with ankle joint quasi-stiffness. Eleven healthy, young males were asked to stand quietly with eyes open (EO) and eyes closed (EC). Ankle joint quasi-stiffness was computed using two methods, one proposed by Winter et al. (Winter DA, et al. J Neurophysiol 80: 1211-1221, 1998) ([Formula: see text]) and another by Loram and Lakie (Loram ID, et al. J Physiol 540: 1111-1124, 2002) ([Formula: see text]). Both values were normalized using parti

Artificial Intelligence-Enhanced Cone-Beam Computed Tomography for the Diagnostic Evaluation of Chronic Rhinosinusitis: A Systematic Review.

Chronic rhinosinusitis (CRS) is one of the most common chronic inflammatory conditions globally, affecting a significant proportion of adults. It is associated with reduced quality of life, recurrent healthcare utilization, and substantial economic burden. Imaging plays a pivotal role in its diagnosis and management. Cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) has emerged as a valuable imaging modality that provides high-resolution, three-dimensional reconstructions with lower radiation exposure compared with conventional CT. However, CBCT interpretation requires expert knowledge, remains time-intens

Dietary methods in cardiovascular disease critique.

It is planned that a wide variety of questions related to nutrient intake and cardiovascular disease will be addressed in NHANES III. Given the scope of these questions and the number of different types of designs that may be utilized--cross-sectional, cohort, and case control--several different dietary methodologies will probably be needed within NHANES III. Assessment and ranking of current intake is a primary objective to the overall NHANES III design. The 24-hour recall will provide this assessment and maintain comparability with the previous extensive NHANES. In many instances, however, i

The New Gravity: How Generative AI Remapped Innovation and What Academia Must Do Next.

Artificial intelligence is rapidly reshaping clinical research, diagnostics, health system operations, and medical education. Frontier generative AI development is increasingly concentrated in private industry, whose computational infrastructure, proprietary datasets, and capital exceed those of most academic institutions. Although not designed exclusively for medicine, these systems increasingly influence clinical applications. This shift raises a question for academic medical centers (AMCs): What role remains when leading AI systems emerge outside universities? This viewpoint examines indust

Surrogate modeling based on computational fluid dynamics for predicting the capsizing moment in a coupled shiplift system.

Accurate prediction of the capsizing moment in shiplift systems remains a significant challenge, primarily due to the strong coupled interactions among the chamber, water body, and ship. Conventional three-dimensional (3D) numerical simulations are associated with high computational costs, while commonly used two-dimensional (2D) simplified models neglect ship effects, potentially leading to underestimation of the actual capsizing moment. In this study, a computational fluid dynamics (CFD)-informed surrogate model is developed for one-step-ahead prediction of capsizing moment in a coupled cham

Concerted proton transfer in homogeneous and heterogeneous cyclic hydrogen-bonded clusters of H2O, HF, and HCl.

This work examines various homogeneous and heterogeneous clusters of hydrogen-bonded (HF)x(H2O)y(HCl)z complexes, where x + y + z = 3 or 4. For each unique cyclic structure associated with the xyz permutations, the geometries of the reactant, product, and transition state (TS) for concerted proton transfer (CPT) were fully optimized using second-order Møller-Plesset perturbation theory (MP2) with a mixed basis set consisting of cc-pVTZ for H atoms and aug-cc-pVTZ for O, Cl, and F atoms (denoted haTZ). Harmonic vibrational frequencies were also computed at the same level of theory to verify the

An auditable pipeline for fuzzy full-text screening in systematic reviews: integrating contrastive semantic highlighting and LLM judgment.

Full-text screening is the major bottleneck of systematic reviews (SRs), particularly in domains such as population health modelling of noncommunicable diseases (NCDs), where decisive eligibility information is scattered across long and heterogeneous full texts. In this methodological study, we introduce a scalable and auditable pipeline that reframes inclusion and exclusion as a fuzzy decision process. We evaluate the approach within the Population Health Modelling Consensus Reporting Network (POPCORN) and benchmark it against statistical and crisp baselines. Articles are parsed into overlapp

The TopCoW Challenge - Topology-Aware Circle of Willis Segmentation for CT and MR Angiography.

BACKGROUND: The circle of Willis (CoW) is an important network of arteries connecting major circulations of the brain. Its vascular architecture is believed to influence the risk, severity, and outcome of serious neurovascular diseases. However, characterizing the highly variable CoW anatomy remains a manual and time-consuming expert task. The CoW is commonly imaged by two noninvasive angiographic imaging modalities - magnetic resonance angiography (MRA) and computed tomography angiography (CTA) - yet few datasets with annotated CoW anatomy exist, and there have been no established benchmarks
