Pilocarpine, a first choice drug for primary angle closure glaucoma (PACG), is reported to produce shallow anterior chamber and posterior synechia and consequently a small immobile pupil. In this paper, dapiprazole, a newly synthesized alpha 1 blocker, was given topically in combination with epinephrine eye drops to 15 healthy volunteers and 10 patients with PACG. In both volunteers and patients, the treated eyes revealed deeper anterior chambers, thinner lenses and significant IOP reduction after the combined instillation of dapiprazole and epinephrine. Though light reaction was preserved, mi

We report a case of conjunctival erosion due to ligature suture knot exposure following Aurolab aqueous drainage device (AADI) implantation. A 48-year-old man, a known case of primary angle-closure glaucoma, had failed trabeculectomy with mitomycin-C and Ahmed glaucoma valve (AGV) in the right eye. The right eye had a large posterior AGV bleb with hypertropia and limitation of extraocular movement on downward gaze and uncontrolled intraocular pressure (IOP). An inferonasal AADI was performed uneventfully. At the 1-month postoperative visit, a small conjunctival erosion was noted over the ligat

BACKGROUND: Anterior segment neovascularisation (ASNV), including neovascularisation of the iris (NVI) and angle (NVA), is a known complication of proliferative diabetic retinopathy (PDR), but outcomes specific to this group remain poorly characterised. We aimed to evaluate visual and intraocular pressure (IOP) outcomes in patients with ASNV secondary to PDR, stratified by anatomical stage, and to assess the incidence of neovascular glaucoma (NVG).
METHODS: This retrospective cohort study included 116 eyes from 72 patients with treated PDR and ASNV treated between 1/1/2017 and 31/12/2023. Eye

Iris autonomic function was studied by binocular infrared pupillometry in 12 patients with acute primary angle closure glaucoma (APACG) and 28 control subjects. Light reflex amplitude and resting darkness pupil diameter were reduced and miotic response to pilocarpine 0.125% drops increased in APACG when compared to controls with anterior chamber depths (ACD) greater than 2.5 mm but not when compared to controls with ACD of 2.5 mm or less. These findings suggest relative autonomic dysfunction, predominantly parasympathetic, in the anterior segment of the eye in APACG. Correlation between result

The conservative treatment as well as photocoagulative therapy of central retinal and branch vein occlusion is reported on. In spite of encouraging reports in the literature on medical treatment with anticoagulants and antithrombocyte aggregation drugs, photocoagulation via the xenon-arc or argon-laser method should be preferred. The indication for photocoagulation depends on fluorescein angiographical controls with the ability to distinguish between reversible and irreversible retinal changes, thus assuming prognostic significance. In cases of central retinal vein occlusion one should begin w

A 52-year-old woman noted loss of vision in August 1984. Clinical examination disclosed iris cysts and ciliary body cysts, macular edema, and uveal nevi. Cataract extraction and pressure-lowering operations were required in both eyes because of a tumor-induced angle-closure glaucoma. Vision, however, progressively decreased to light perception in each eye. Both eyes were finally enucleated because a malignant melanoma could not be ruled out, though iris tissue obtained in 1985 suggested a nevuslike process. Histologic study indicated a bilateral uveal hyperplasia. Results of light and electron

Seventy-one patients with glaucoma needing surgical correction had either a peripheral iridectomy with a thermal sclerostomy or a trabeculectomy utilizing a modification of Watson's technique in which the scleral flap was closed tightly with sutures. Results of surgery were analyzed at intervals up to an including three years following the surgical procedure. The success of the operations was judged both in terms of the effect on intraocular pressure as well as on the visual ability of the eye. Since the surgeon's aim is to lower intraocular pressure to a particular level, not simply to an arb

Bilateral spherophakia is a rare congenital condition, typically associated with syndromic disorders where distinctive features facilitate early recognition. Isolated cases without systemic involvement are often underdiagnosed and identified following angle-closure glaucoma or crystalline lens (CL) subluxation. In spherophakia, the CL adopts a spherical shape due to defective zonular fibers, inducing lenticular myopia. We report the case of a six-year-old boy presenting with short stature, high myopia, and bilateral low vision, initially misdiagnosed. A progressive myopic shift of -0.50 D ever

We report two cases of Rubinstein-Taybi syndrome (RTS) with retinal detachment. Case 1 is a nine-year-old girl with RTS. She developed a macula-involving tractional retinal detachment (TRD) in the superior temporal quadrant of her right eye. Lens aspiration, intraocular lens implantation, vitrectomy with membrane peeling, and encircling were performed. However, retinal reattachment was not achieved. Two months after the surgery, neovascular glaucoma (NVG) in the right eye developed and consequently became phthisis bulbi two years after the surgery. At the age of 13 years, she underwent catarac
