[Effect of cataract surgery for visual field in glaucoma patients].

PURPOSE: To study the influence of cataract surgery on the quantitative and qualitative parameters of visual field in patients previously operated for glaucoma. METHOD: Retrospective study that included 42 eyes with primary open angle glaucoma that had been previously subjected to trabeculectomy. The glaucoma was therapeutically controlled in all patients. Then they all underwent cataract extraction and artificial lens implantation. All eyes were evaluated pre- and postoperatively at short intervals to avoid glaucoma progression. Throughout the follow-up period the IOP remained under 21 mmHg,…

[Efficacy and safety of the new generation of excimer laser trabeculotomy in a heterogeneous patient population-1-year follow-up].

BACKGROUND: Microinvasive procedures have become established in glaucoma surgery and are preferred for patients with target pressure values that are not too low. Excimer laser trabeculotomy (ELT) represents such a minimally invasive approach and can easily be combined with cataract surgery. OBJECTIVE: Over 12 months the reduction in intraocular pressure (IOP), the number of antiglaucoma drugs and the incidence of adverse events were evaluated using the new EliosTM method (Elios Vision GmbH, Germering, Germany) for real-life data from a heterogeneous patient population undergoing ELT in combin

False Passage of 5-0 Polypropylene Suture into Episcleral Vein during Gonioscopy-Assisted Transluminal Trabeculotomy.

Gonioscopy-assisted transluminal trabeculotomy (GATT) is a promising cost-effective minimally invasive glaucoma surgery (MIGS). The main advantage is safety with regards to low risk for hypotony and its related complications. However, the Schlemm's canal (SC) based procedures have a different set of complications, the most common being hyphema and transient intraocular pressure spike. The other rare complications being, the false passage of the suture by traversing the external wall of the SC into the suprachoroidal space or posterior chamber or breaching the internal wall of the SC into the a

Simultaneous bilateral intraocular surgery in children.

BACKGROUND: Simultaneous bilateral intraocular surgery (SBIS), defined as sequential bilateral intraocular surgery completed in one visit to the operating room, is a controversial topic. The reluctance of ophthalmologists to perform SBIS has been mainly attributable to concerns about bilateral catastrophic complications (endophthalmitis, expulsive hemorrhage, or retinal detachment). Herein we report our experience with SBIS in children and review the literature. METHODS: The medical records of 44 patients who underwent 48 cases of SBIS between 1994 and 2009 were reviewed. Of the 48 cases, 27
