Profile-QSAR is a novel 2D predictive model building method for kinases. This "meta-QSAR" method models the activity of each compound against a new kinase target as a linear combination of its predicted activities against a large panel of 92 previously studied kinases comprised from 115 assays. Profile-QSAR starts with a sparse incomplete kinase by compound (KxC) activity matrix, used to generate Bayesian QSAR models for the 92 "basis-set" kinases. These Bayesian QSARs generate a complete "synthetic" KxC activity matrix of predictions. These synthetic activities are used as "chemical descripto

Brain-computer interfaces (BCIs) are essential in assistive technologies to restore mobility in individuals with motor impairments. Although electroencephalography (EEG)-based brain-controlled wheelchairs have been extensively studied, most tongue-controlled systems rely on physical tongue movements, intraoral devices, or limited offline commands, which reduces the usability and comfort. This study introduces an EEG-based tongue motor imagery (MI) BCI for intuitive and entirely mental wheelchair control. By leveraging preserved motor function and the cortical representation of the tongue, the

Presence of intravenous contrast on computed tomography (CT) scans is often unreliably documented, especially in large research datasets. FALCON is an open-access fully automated deep learning model enabling large-scale intravenous contrast detection and body part classification for CT scans of the head and neck (HN), chest, abdomen, and pelvis (AP). This study used six independent datasets consisting of 3138 CT scans of the HN, chest, and AP of 3126 patients from five institutions between 1996 and 2023 to train and validate four CNN models for intravenous contrast detection and body part clas

This paper examines emergent environmental haptics via structural acoustic analysis of Babbling Brook, a large-scale installation of forty solenoid-actuated computer keyboards (eighty solenoids) and an eight-channel synthetic keystroke layer. Whereas most arts-haptics research addresses direct-contact interfaces and wearables for individual users, environmental phenomena are difficult to measure in walk-through galleries and have received little attention. The work spans four density modes: at low densities listeners perceive discrete keystrokes, while at high densities the auditory texture ap

Xylem is essential for water and nutrient transport, mechanical support, and carbohydrate storage. Identification and quantification of vascular cell types remain manual, time-consuming, and prone to observer bias, limiting throughput and reproducibility. Automated, integrated tools are critical for scaling wood anatomical studies and enabling comparative analyses across taxa. We assembled a poplar xylem dataset of 1,790 microscopy images with 173,434 annotated instances. Using this dataset, we evaluated seven semantic segmentation models and five YOLOv8 detection models across section types f

Brain-Machine Interfaces (BMIs) hold significant promise for the neurorehabilitation of patients with lower-limb impairments. However, their widespread clinical adoption is hindered by high costs and system complexity. This study presents an open-loop, low-cost EEG-based BMI designed to assess the cognitive implication of users during assisted cycling therapy. The system computes two cognitive indices: a low-frequency index, associated with motor-related engagement, and a high-frequency index, related to attention during motor tasks. These indices are obtained using Filter Bank Common Spatial

Neurofeedback (NFB) and Brain-Computer Interface (BCI) research seldom present within-session individual learning dynamics. This is even though a large proportion of NFB and BCI users cannot learn the neural self-regulation required to control the feedback. Understanding the time course and learning dynamics between subjects will enable us to design more effective NFB and BCI protocols that promote the learning of neural self-regulation. In this study, we aimed to analyze individual learning trajectories of self-regulation of four different cortical rhythms, in terms of both frequency and spat

Objective.Assistive robots can be developed to restore or provide more autonomy for individuals with motor impairments. In particular, power wheelchairs can compensate lower-limb impairments, while robotic manipulators can compensate upper-limbs impairments. Recent studies have shown that Brain-Computer Interfaces (BCI) can be used to operate this type of devices. However, activities of daily living and long-term use in real-life contexts such as home require robustness and adaptability to complex, changing and cluttered environments which can be problematic given the neural signals that do no

Pretrained large models (PLMs), such as ChatGPT, have demonstrated remarkable performance across diverse tasks. However, the significant computational requirements of PLMs have discouraged most product teams from running or fine-tuning them. In such cases, to harness the exceptional performance of PLMs, one must rely on paid Application Programming Interface (API), thereby exacerbating the economic burden. Despite the overall inferior performance of small models, in specific distributions, they can achieve comparable or even superior results. Consequently, some input can be processed exclusive

BACKGROUND: In the rapidly evolving landscape of veterinary healthcare, integrating machine learning (ML) clinical decision-making tools with electronic health records (EHRs) promises to improve diagnostic accuracy and patient care. However, the seamless integration of ML classifiers into existing EHR systems in veterinary medicine is often hindered by the inherent rigidity of these systems or by the limited availability of IT resources to implement the modifications necessary for ML compatibility.
RESULTS: Anna is a standalone analytics platform that can host ML classifiers and interfaces wi

Rodent malaria models serve as important preclinical antimalarial and vaccine testing tools. Evaluating treatment outcomes in these models often requires manually counting parasite-infected red blood cells (iRBCs), a time-consuming process, which can be inconsistent between individuals and laboratories. We have developed an easy-to-use machine learning (ML)-based software, Malaria Screener R, to expedite and standardize such studies by automating the counting of Plasmodium iRBCs in rodents. This software can process Giemsa-stained blood smear images captured by any camera-equipped microscope.

Brain-computer interface (BCI) brings hope to patients suffering from neuromuscular diseases, by allowing the control of external devices using neural signals from the central nervous system. However, a portion of individuals was unable to operate BCI with high efficacy. This research aimed to study the brain-wide functional connectivity differences that contributed to BCI performance, and investigate the relationship between task-related connectivity strength and BCI performance. Functional connectivity was estimated using pairwise Pearson's correlation from the EEG of 48 subjects performing

In recent years, steady-state visual evoked potential (SSVEP)-based brain-computer interfaces (BCIs) have attracted extensive attention owing to their high information transfer rate (ITR) and multi-target recognition capability. Deep learning (DL) methods have shown strong potential in SSVEP feature extraction and target frequency classification. However, their relatively high model complexity and dependence on large-scale calibration data increase the burden of data acquisition and may induce subject fatigue, thereby limiting user experience and practical application. To address these issues,

The novel SARS-CoV-2 uses ACE2 (Angiotensin-Converting Enzyme 2) receptor as an entry point. Insights on S protein receptor-binding domain (RBD) interaction with ACE2 receptor and drug repurposing has accelerated drug discovery for the novel SARS-CoV-2 infection. Finding small molecule binding sites in S protein and ACE2 interface is crucial in search of effective drugs to prevent viral entry. In this study, we employed molecular dynamics simulations in mixed solvents together with virtual screening to identify small molecules that could be potential inhibitors of S protein -ACE2 interaction.

There may well be a shift towards 3-dimensional orthognathic surgery when virtual surgical planning can be applied clinically. We present a computer-assisted protocol that uses surgical navigation supplemented by an interactive image-guided visualisation display (IGVD) to transfer virtual maxillary planning precisely. The aim of this study was to analyse its accuracy and versatility in vivo. The protocol consists of maxillofacial imaging, diagnosis, planning of virtual treatment, and intraoperative surgical transfer using an IGV display. The advantage of the interactive IGV display is that the
