Systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) is a chronic autoimmune disorder with widespread manifestations including the eye. Central serous retinopathy (CSR) has been associated as a complicating event in SLE, although it is uncommon. BACKGROUND: Extensive clinical studies on retinal branch vein occlusion have not yet been able to clarify its pathogenesis. A study designed to look at the associated blood-retina barrier changes may contribute to a better understanding of the different forms of evolution of this pathology.

BACKGROUND: The pathogenesis of central serous chorioretinopathy (CSC) is poorly understood. Abnormalities in the choroidal circulation have been hypothesized to be causative factors. Fluorescein angiography has not been particularly useful in identifying specific choroidal defects in CSC, largely because of inherent limitations in imaging with this technique. This article examines the pathophysiology, diagnosis, treatment, and outcome of acute cardiogenic pulmonary edema, as well as re-expansion, high-altitude, postobstructive, and neurogenic pulmonary edemas. Acute cardiogenic pulmonary edema most commonly presents as a consequence of congestive heart failure. The other important causes are acute myocardial dysfunction, documented myocardial infarction, postoperative cardiac dysfunction, and pulmonary hypertension. All these entities have in common increased pulmonary vascular pressures that lead to pulmonary edema.

Cerebral vascular permeability is an important consideration in treatment for intracranial tumours. We have developed a new method to measure the cerebral vascular permeability quantitatively using a conventional X-ray CT scanner and iodinated contrast medium.
