OBJECTIVES: Transpapillary drainage of the main pancreatic duct (MPD) has been proposed for the treatment of external pancreatic fistulas (EPF) but may not suffice to treat complex cases. The aim of the present study was to explore the efficacy of various endoscopic or combined percutaneous and endoscopic techniques in the treatment of EPFs.

BACKGROUND: Endoscopic papillectomy of benign papillary tumor is still not widely practiced. Intraductal growth has been considered a contraindication for endoscopic therapy. This prospective study evaluates endoscopic papillectomy for treatment of benign papillary tumors without and with intraductal growth.

Ulcerative processes are the most disabling of anal diseases in HIV+ patients. The spectrum ranges from "benign" fissures to invasive ulcerative processes. It is important to recognize their salient features in order to effectuate proper management. Since 1989, 74 HIV+ patients with ulcerative anal disease were evaluated. PATIENTS AND METHODS: One hundred unselected consecutive patients referred for cholecystectomy, or admitted as emergencies with complicated gallbladder disease.
