Endoscopic transcanal repair of temporomandibular joint herniation into the external auditory canal: literature review.

Temporomandibular joint (TMJ) herniation into the external auditory canal is a rare condition associated with anterior canal wall defects, most commonly due to a patent foramen of Huschke, trauma, or infection. The clinical presentation is variable and often non-specific, which may lead to misdiagnosis. High-resolution computed tomography is crucial for accurate diagnosis and effective surgical planning. While open surgical repair remains standard, minimally invasive approaches have not been widely reported. An 81-year-old male presented with right-sided otalgia exacerbated by mandibular movem

Evaluation of Efficacy of Autogenous Dentine Grafts in Socket Preservation Post-Exodontia Using Bone Densitometric Analysis in Grafted and Non-Grafted Healing Extraction Sockets Following Bilateral Mandibular Third Molar Extractions: A Prospective, Evaluative Study.

BACKGROUND: When a tooth is lost, a general lack of stimulation of the remaining alveolar bone results in a decrease in trabeculae and subsequently, bone density in the post-extraction alveolus. In recent years, numerous bone augmentation techniques employing a range of bone graft materials have been used to reconstruct the deficient vertical and/or, horizontal alveolar ridge dimensions. OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the efficacy of autogenous dentine grafts in socket preservation post-exodontia. METHODS: This was a split-mouth study design which included 60 subjects, while the bone density was ass

Challenges in the diagnosis and management of soft tissue tumors of the oral cavity.

Soft tissue lesions are among the most prevalent forms of tumors or tumor-like alterations within the oral cavity. They exhibit a wide spectrum of characteristics, ranging from benign, noninvasive lesions to malignant tumors, which collectively present a diagnostic challenge. A 67-year-old patient presented with an incidental finding of induration on the right cheek during dental hygiene. The intraoral examination revealed a soft, non-tender swelling measuring 20 mm in diameter. The sensitivity and percussion tests for the teeth in the fourth quadrant yielded unremarkable results. Panoramic ra

The effect of mandibular movement on temporomandibular joint morphology while eating French fries.

BACKGROUND: The preferred masticatory side was reported to be almost always the same as the affected side of the temporomandibular disorder. Unbalanced alterations of temporomandibular joint morphology were found to be associated with unilaterally masticatory habits. The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of the mandibular movement on the remodeling of temporomandibular joint during eating French fries using a 3D motion capture system. METHODS: Twelve volunteers with non-maxillofacial deformity and a healthy temporomandibular joint were recruited. The 3D models of the mandible an

Bone Tissue Engineering Strategies for Alveolar Cleft: Review of Preclinical Results and Guidelines for Future Studies.

The current standard of care for an alveolar cleft defect is an autogenous bone graft, typically from the iliac crest. Given the limitations of alveolar bone graft surgery, such as limited supply, donor site morbidity, graft failure, and need for secondary surgery, there has been growing interest in regenerative medicine strategies to supplement and replace traditional alveolar bone grafts. Though there have been preliminary clinical studies investigating bone tissue engineering methods in human subjects, lack of consistent results as well as limitations in study design make it difficult to de
