BACKGROUND: The role of lymphadenectomy in adrenocortical carcinoma resection is controversial. Therefore, we conducted a population-based study to assess the association between positive lymph nodes (LN) and survival.
METHODS: The Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results set of cancer registries were utilized. The associations between positive lymph nodes and tumor size, grade and laterality were assessed. Cancer specific survival (CSS) trends and factors affecting survival were analyzed.

Peripheral 18-oxocortisol (18oxoF) level could contribute to the detection of aldosterone-producing adenoma (APA) in patients with primary aldosteronism. However, peripheral 18oxoF varies among such patients, which is a big drawback concerning its clinical application. We studied 48 cases of APA, 35 harboring KCNJ5 mutation, to clarify the significance of clinical and pathological parameters about peripheral 18oxoF. Peripheral 18oxoF concentration ranged widely from 0.50 to 183.13 ng/dL and correlated positively with intratumoral areas stained positively for steroidogenic enzymes ( P<0.0001).

Evidence suggests that lichen sclerosus (LS) is the primary aetiological factor for local vulval recurrence (LVR) in vulval squamous cell carcinoma (VSCC). The long-term application of topical corticosteroids is believed to prevent LVR. The results of examination and treatment of 96 patients with adrenocortical cancer (ACC) were analyzed. A 47-year-old woman with a seven-month history of increasing weight, hypertension and recently diagnosed diabetes presented features of hirsutism, frontal baldness, amenorrhea and hypokalemia. These characteristics were considered diagnostic of Cushing´s syndrome, and studies were initialized to identify its etiology. During hospitalization, the patient presented a torpid evolution resulting in death. Clinical autopsy revealed a 400 g carcinoma in the left adrenal gland, liver metastasis and a massive vena cava tumor thrombus which was the final cause of death.

Adrenal metastases usually occur in prostate cancer patients with widespread bone and visceral disease. Autopsy studies have shown that adrenal metastases may be found in up to 23% of these patients. OBJECTIVE: To present a case of pulmonary metastases from adrenocortical carcinomas (ACC) that were secreting fully-functional cortisol resulting in clinical Cushing's syndrome and to compare the steroidogenic enzyme expression in the primary tumor and lung.
