Consumer preferences for hearing health care information and services as described by older adults surveyed in Australia, Canada, England, and the United States.

BACKGROUND: Age-related hearing loss is a global public health concern and yet hearing health care (HHC) services remain underutilized. Understanding the HHC experiences of older adults is essential to addressing why existing systems are underutilized. Therefore, we surveyed older adults to determine their preferences for HHC service delivery. In this cross-sectional survey study, we report where they preferred to obtain HHC information, undergo hearing tests, and acquire hearing devices. We also examined whether these preferences varied by degree of hearing loss, help-seeking experience, surv

Patient Knowledge of GLP-1 Receptor Agonists for Obesity and Exploration of Potential Household-Level Effects in an Urban Health System.

BACKGROUND: The use of glucagon-like peptide-1 receptor agonists (GLP-1 RAs) for obesity management has gained widespread popularity and media attention. However, little is known about patients' knowledge related to GLP-1 RAs (e.g., prescribing indications, side effects), how patients currently learn and wish to learn about GLP-1 RAs, and how GLP-1 RA use may impact weight-related behaviors and attitudes within households (e.g., food purchasing patterns). OBJECTIVE: This study evaluated these questions among diverse adults recruited from a large, urban health system. METHODS: Participants we

Economic Evaluation of Home Chest Radiography for Patients With Limited Mobility in Greece: A Modeled Cost-Minimization Analysis From a Limited Societal Perspective.

Introduction Home radiography is an alternative diagnostic pathway for patients with limited mobility who would otherwise need to be transported to a hospital facility for chest radiography. Transporting these patients entails costs, attendant time, and organizational burden. The purpose of the present study was to compare the cost of two-view home chest radiography (frontal and lateral views) with that of the hospital pathway through a public hospital Emergency Department (ED) in clinically stable patients who do not require urgent medical assessment and who, in the absence of a home service,

xPEDition pain: protocol for a quasi-experimental before-after study of a public health campaign on chronic pain in the Ems Dollart Region.

INTRODUCTION: Chronic pain is a public health priority that affects 18% of Dutch and 16% of German adults, representing a major societal burden. The Ems Dollart Region (EDR), which forms the northern part of the Dutch-German border area, is particularly characterised by lower incomes, more physically demanding jobs and lower health literacy, which are associated with higher pain prevalence. Individuals with lower socioeconomic status face greater pain-related disability and reduced quality of life. Public health campaigns underpinned by pain science education provide a strategy to improve unde

Building Emotional Awareness and Mental Health in Parenting (BEAM): protocol for a parallel-group randomized controlled non-inferiority trial for an app based intervention to improve postpartum mental health and support children's brain development in Western Canada.

BACKGROUND: Symptoms of depression, anxiety and anger are common amongst parents and are associated with increased risk of offspring mental health problems and differences in child brain development. Many parents do not access treatment, in part due to expense, wait times, and stigma. Increasing access to treatment may improve quality of life for parents and their children. eHealth and peer-supported interventions may offer accessible and effective treatment avenues for parents of young children. The primary aim of this non-inferiority trial is to estimate the effect of the Building Emotional

Ex vivo modeling of lung tissue resident antimicrobial responses.

UNLABELLED: Tissue resident host responses to microbial infections in the respiratory tract are highly dynamic in space and time and rely on the interaction of a multitude of cell types. To model these multicellular responses reliably in cell culture, we compare here the global transcriptional antimicrobial response to infection with influenza A virus (IAV) in precision cut lung slices (PCLS), volume-defined organ discs largely maintaining the cellular composition and 3D architecture of the donor lung. To permit a fair comparison of host responses in an isogenic background, we first challenged

A potion for prolonged life? Germes' recipe, a secret handwritten note from an 18th-century Swedish physician.

BACKGROUND: Toward the end of the late Middle Ages and into the early modern era, a variety of elixirs and potions for longevity with claimed medical effects were advertised by pharmacists and distributed throughout Europe. At the same time, there was an increasing emergence of handwritten commonplace books of home remedies, first among the aristocrats and rich merchants, then later among other populations, providing basic recipes for all types of common medical disorders. From a historical-pharmacological perspective, this study seeks to analyze a handwritten note encompassing a recipe detail

Engaging End Users to Inform the Design and Social Marketing Strategy for a Web-Based Sexually Transmitted Infection/Blood-Borne Virus (STI/BBV) Testing Service for Young People in Victoria, Australia: Qualitative Study.

BACKGROUND: The rates of sexually transmitted infections (STIs) continue to rise across Australia among 16- to 29-year-olds. Timely testing is needed to reduce transmission, but sexual health clinics are at capacity. This demand, coupled with barriers to getting tested faced by young people, has led to web-based services as a pragmatic solution. However, for young people to use these services, they must be acceptable, attractive, and usable. Social marketing principles combined with end user engagement can be used to guide the development of a web-based service and create a marketing strategy

Textured insoles may improve some gross motor balance measures but not endurance measures in children with motor coordination issues. A randomised controlled feasibility trial.

BACKGROUND: Motor coordination concerns are estimated to affect 5%-6% of school-aged children. Motor coordination concerns have variable impact on children's lives, with gait and balance often affected. Textured insoles have demonstrated positive impact on balance and gait in adults with motor coordination disorders related to disease or the ageing process. The efficacy of textured insoles in children is unknown. Our primary aim was to identify the feasibility of conducting a randomised controlled trial involving children with motor control issues. The secondary aim was to identify the limited
