PURPOSE: This study evaluated the survival parameters of single-tooth implants through clinical and radiographic analysis.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: Implants were restored within a 24-hour period with a provisional crown designed to receive an occlusal masticatory load. This approach was compared to implants restored after a healing period (the control group). Forty-six implants were placed in 23 patients who were each treated with 2 Frialit-2 implants placed in sites between the second premolar in the maxilla or mandible. The manufacturer's recommended formal surgical procedure was followed, an

Full circumferential application of biologically oriented preparation concepts in prosthetic retreatment remains highly technique sensitive and may compromise prosthetic margin control. This concept-driven clinical report describes a mixed vertical preparation strategy that differentiates cervical objectives by tooth surface to balance periodontal tissue conditioning with prosthetic predictability. Based on a selective literature review and one illustrative clinical case, a vertical preparation performed according to Biologically Oriented Preparation Technique (BOPT) principles, combined with

INTRODUCTION: This study investigated the effects of maxillary molar distalization using clear aligners and skeletal anchorage, specifically examining the influence of varying anchorage force levels through 3D finite element modeling.
METHOD: Eight models were developed, systematically varying anchorage force (1.66 N and 3.34 N) from infrazygomatic crest (IZC) screws, force application site (precision cuts or buttons), and the presence or absence of vertical rectangular attachments. A 0.2 mm activation was applied between the first and second molars.
RESULTS: Results indicated that variation

Extraction of a permanent maxillary canine in a skeletally immature patient creates a rehabilitative interval during which definitive implant therapy is contraindicated and conventional alternatives have well-known limitations. This case report describes the use of a titanium orthodontic microscrew as a transitional prosthetic support in this clinical situation. A 13-year-old female patient was referred with an impacted right maxillary canine in a severely ectopic position adjacent to the floor of the maxillary sinus. Orthodontic traction was considered unfeasible based on the tooth position,

This retrospective study reports on the survival of two-piece angulated prosthetic platform (APP) implants consecutively placed at a specialist periodontics clinic with a mean follow-up of 28.2 ± 15.6 months (range: 4.0 to 71.0). For 183 returning patients who received 239 implants, the survival rates at follow-up (up to 71 months) were 99.2% and 91.1% at the patient and implant levels, respectively. A majority of patients were nonsmokers and did not have diabetes, with a quarter having a history of treated periodontitis. Eighty percent of patients received a single APP implant. Of the implant

Dentigerous cysts (DC) are cystic lesions radiographically represented by a well-defined unilocular radiolucent area involving an impacted tooth crown. We present an unusual radiographic feature of dentigerous cyst related to the impacted mandibular right second molar, in a 16-year-old patient, which suggested an ameloblastoma or odontogenic keratocyst (OKC) because of its multilocular appearance seen on the panoramic radiography. A multi-slice computed tomography (MSCT), however, revealed a unilocular lesion without septations, with an attenuation coefficient from 3.9 to 22.9 HU suggesting a …

AIM: To assess the effect of connective tissue grafting on the mid-buccal mucosal level (MBML) of immediately placed and provisionalized single implants in the maxillofacial aesthetic zone.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: Sixty patients with a failing tooth were provided with an immediately placed and provisionalized implant. During implant placement, patients randomly received either a connective tissue graft from the maxillary tuberosity (n = 30, test group) or no graft (n = 30, control group). Follow-up visits were at one (T1 ) and twelve months (T12 ) after final crown placement. The primary outco

Despite the abundance of cercopithecoids in the fossil record, especially in South Africa, and the recent development of morphometric approaches, uncertainties regarding the taxonomic identification of isolated cranio-dental specimens remain. Because cercopithecoids, nearly always found in stratigraphic association with hominin remains in Plio-Pleistocene deposits, are considered as sensitive ecological and chronological biomarkers, a significant effort should be made to clarify their palaeobiodiversity by assessing additional reliable morphological diagnostic criteria. Here we test the releva

Enamel-renal syndrome (ERS) is an autosomal recessive disorder characterized by severe enamel hypoplasia, failed tooth eruption, intrapulpal calcifications, enlarged gingiva, and nephrocalcinosis. Recently, mutations in FAM20A were reported to cause amelogenesis imperfecta and gingival fibromatosis syndrome (AIGFS), which closely resembles ERS except for the renal calcifications. We characterized three families with AIGFS and identified, in each case, recessive FAM20A mutations: family 1 (c.992G>A; g.63853G>A; p.Gly331Asp), family 2 (c.720-2A>G; g.62232A>G; p.Gln241_Arg271del), and family 3 (c

Direct laser metal forming (DLMF) is a new technique which allows solids with complex geometry to be produced by annealing metal powder microparticles in a focused laser beam, according to a computer-generated three-dimensional (3D) model. For dental implants, the fabrication process involves the laser-induced fusion of titanium microparticles, in order to build, layer by layer, the desired object. Modern computed tomography (CT) acquisition and 3D image conversion, combined with the DLMF process, allows the fabrication of custom-made, root-analogue implants (RAI), perfect copies of the radicu

Dens in dente, also known as dens invaginatus and dilated compound odontoma, is a malformation that can occur on primary, permanent, or supernumerary teeth that is characterized by a deep invagination of the surface of a crown or root covered with enamel. This abnormality in tooth morphology generally affect the maxillary lateral incisors but several cases of multiple dens invaginatus have been reported in the literature. A 15 year-old female patient is reported here presenting five dens invaginatus: four in the permanent mandibular incisors and one in the permanent, maxillary left central inc

Trauma is a common cause of pulpal damage. In traumatic injuries, the first priority is to protect the vitality of pulps. But the time between the trauma and treatment must be short to preserve vital, noninflamed pulps. The aim of this study was to investigate the histopathological changes in pulpal tissues at different time periods after crown fractures. Twenty-three teeth with enamel and dentin fractures, with and without pulp exposure were evaluated. The reasons for seeking dental treatment were aesthetic consideration, pain, or discomfort. The extirpated pulps were histologically prepared
