Cosmetic periodontal procedures.

This paper reviews the newest advances in and opinions about cosmetic periodontal surgery. It includes a review of basic periodontal anatomy as it relates to restoring ideal health and esthetic gingival and osseous tissues. Treatments for excessive gingival tissue, ridge augmentations, and gingival deficiencies are discussed. These procedures are important in creating the illusion of a natural cosmetic smile in otherwise compromised situations.

[Periodontal considerations related to extractions].

During any tooth extraction, the dentist has to think about healing problems in order to maintain as much bone as possible afterwards. Careful and well done extractions using classical techniques allow maximum bone preservation in normal cases. At minima alveolectomy techniques are a guarantee against tremendous bone loss. After healing and before prosthetic rehabilitation, crests must be checked and, if necessary, corrected by one of the several available techniques.

Alveolar Ridge Regeneration Using Flexible Allogeneic Laminar Bone for Implant Site Development: A Case Series.

Background: Horizontal alveolar ridge deficiencies resulting from tooth loss, implant failure, trauma, or advanced ridge atrophy frequently require augmentation before prosthetically driven implant placement can be achieved. Flexible allogeneic cortical bone laminae have been introduced as biologic containment devices that also eliminate the need for titanium mesh or non-resorbable barrier membranes. Methods: Three patients presenting with horizontal ridge deficiencies were treated using guided bone regeneration (GBR) with flexible allogeneic laminar bone combined with particulate mineralized

Implant Site Under-Preparation to Compensate the Remodeling of an Autologous Bone Block Graft.

Autologous bone block grafting is an efficient technique to thicken an atrophied residual alveolar ridge. A variable degree of resorption, however, occurs due to graft remodeling. In this study, we hypothesize that under-preparation of implant socket would permit the dental implant to act as a bone expansor and thus compensate for the contraction in the augmented ridge width. For that reason, 10 patients received an autologous bone block graft that was obtained from the ramus of the mandible. Residual alveolar ridge width was measured on CBCT scans obtained before surgery (T0), after 2 months

[Application of osteoconductive substitute materials in pre-implantation alveolar site preservation].

In order to reduce bone resorption after tooth extraction and achieve the necessary soft and hard tissue augmentation, it is very important to adequately manage the tooth extraction site. Alveolar ridge preservation (ARP) before implantation helps to obtain predictable and satisfactory bone augmentation results. In this paper, the characteristics, histological studies, clinical applications and therapeutic effects of osteoconductive alternative materials in ARP are introduced, and related references are provided for their application in ARP.

Combination of bone graft and resorbable membrane for alveolar ridge preservation: A systematic review, meta-analysis, and trial sequential analysis.

INTRODUCTION: Alveolar ridge preservation (ARP) techniques aim to reduce resorption after tooth extraction. The combination of a graft material covered with a resorbable membrane represents one of the most common strategies performed in the clinical practice. The aim of this systematic review is to analyze evidence regarding potential benefits of ARP procedures performed with allogenic/xenogenic grafts in combination with a resorbable membrane coverage in comparison with spontaneous healing. METHODS: Electronic databases were screened independently to select studies suitable for inclusion in

Bone Grafts in Dental Implant Management: A Narrative Review.

Successful implant dentistry can be directly related to the quality and quantity of bone at the recipient site of the implant. Over the years, bone grafts have been used for the treatment of various osseous defects. Due to the widespread acceptance of dental implants, interest in bone reconstruction for the oral cavity has increased dramatically over the past decade. Many patients who request implant rehabilitation require ancillary procedures to increase the quantity and quality of the recipient's bone. The internal architecture of the bone is generally described in terms of quality of the bo

Efficacy of the application of leukocyte and platelet-rich fibrin (L-PRF) on alveolar ridge preservation. A randomized controlled clinical trial.

INTRODUCTION: Alveolar ridge preservation (ARP) is a well-defined treatment performed to reduce bone dimensional changes occurring during the healing of post-extraction sockets to allow for adequate implant placement. Leukocyte and platelet-rich fibrin (L-PRF) has been showing to potentially promote bone and tissue regeneration during wound healing. Therefore, the aim of this study is to evaluate its efficacy for ARP when applied to fresh extraction sockets, in comparison with spontaneous healing. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Twenty-seven patients with hopeless non-molar teeth were treated. After r

Dimensional and histomorphometric evaluation of biomaterials used for alveolar ridge preservation: a systematic review and network meta-analysis.

OBJECTIVES: This systematic review and network meta-analysis aimed to answer to the following questions: (a) In patients undergoing alveolar ridge preservation after tooth extraction, which grafting material best attenuates horizontal and vertical ridge resorption, as compared to spontaneous healing?, and (b) which material(s) promotes bone formation in the extraction socket? MATERIALS AND METHODS: The MEDLINE, SCOPUS, CENTRAL, and EMBASE databases were screened in duplicate for RCTs up to March 2021. Two independent authors extracted the data and assessed the risk of bias of the included stu

[Application of two-stage ridge splitting technique in atrophic mandibular alveolar ridge].

Adequate bone volume is the primary condition for successful dental implants. However, sufficient bone volume is often encountered in the vertical direction, but the bone volume in the buccolingual direction is insufficient, making it less suitable to be implanted. If the traditional spitting technique is used in the mandible, fracture and necrosis can easily occur in the labial (buccal) bone plate due to the absence of elasticity, thick cortical bone, poor blood supply, and anastomotic branch. The two-stage ridge splitting technique can be used in patients with narrow alveolar ridge in the ma

Combination of autogenous dentin graft and allograft for horizontal ridge augmentation: A case report.

BACKGROUND: Autogenous particulate dentin has emerged as one of the promising biocompatible alternatives to traditional bone graft materials in alveolar ridge augmentation. Although its clinical success is documented, comprehensive studies combining histological and radiographic evaluations remain limited. This case report addresses this gap by detailing a novel approach using autogenous particulate dentin combined with cancellous allograft and a long-lasting absorbable barrier membrane (lasso-guided bone regeneration technique) for horizontal ridge augmentation. METHODS AND RESULTS: A 49-yea…

Bone regeneration of localized chronic alveolar defects utilizing cell binding peptide associated with anorganic bovine-derived bone mineral: a clinical and histological study.

BACKGROUND: Osteoinduction to treat osseous defects has been attempted by several means. Some clinical studies have demonstrated that a synthetic cell binding peptide (P-15) with anorganic bovine derived bone matrix (ABM) has the ability to enhance bone regeneration. These studies suggest that more histological data are necessary to better understand this process. We have developed a Class III chronic alveolar defect animal model to investigate space-maintaining regenerative materials. The objective of this study was to clinically and histologically evaluate the use of P-15/ABM with or without

Use of autologous dentin matrix in bone defects augmentation - a literature review.

A number of regenerative materials are currently used to regenerate or preserve the alveolar pro- cess. One of these is autogenous dentin matrix. With many valuable properties such as easy availability, simple preparation, low cost, low risk of disease transmission and no risk of triggering an immune response against the graft, autogenous dentin matrix appears to be a very good material of choice. The following article is intended to provide an overview of the use of autogenous dentin matrix.

The Novel Periosteal Flap Stretch Technique: A Predictable Method to Achieve and maintain Primary Closure in Augmentative Procedures.

BACKGROUND: Correct soft tissue management and achieving tension-free primary closure are pre-requisites for the success of bone augmentation procedures. Several techniques have been developed to facilitate a passive soft tissue primary closure. However, the current techniques are highly invasive and require advanced surgical skills. Hence, the present case series report will describe a novel and simple flap management technique. METHODS: The Periosteal Flap Stretch technique was utilized in bone augmentation procedures for four patients who presented with horizontal and vertical alveolar rid
