The occurrence of occupational allergic contact dermatitis due to 2,3-epoxypropyl trimethyl ammonium chloride (EPTMAC) is reported and supplemented with immunohistochemical and electron microscopic observations. Four young workers developed hand dermatitis at a factory in which modified, cationic starch is manufactured. The influence of drugs on ciliary beat frequency in the intrapulmonary airways of rats was studied in vitro. Sympathomimetic drugs significantly increased the ciliary beat frequency. Acetylcholine, pilocarpine, aminophylline, prednisolone, potassium iodide, and ammonium chloride also caused cilioexcitation, though to a lesser degree. Tubulo interstitial nephritis, the main manifestation of renal involvement in Sjögren syndrome, may lead to a tubular dysfunction that is usually subclinical. We report three women, aged 32, 35 and 35 years old, with a primary Sjögren syndrome and symptomatic type I or distal tubular acidosis. Two patients had nephrolithiasis and one a nephrocalcinosis. Trospium chloride is an orally active, quaternary ammonium compound with antimuscarinic activity. It binds specifically and with high affinity to muscarinic receptors M(1), M(2) and M(3), but not nicotinic, cholinergic receptors. It is hydrophilic and does not cross the normal blood-brain barrier in significant amounts and, therefore, has minimal central anticholinergic activity. Peak plasma trospium chloride concentrations are attained approximately 5-6 hours after oral administration, which should occur before meals as concurrent food ingestion significantly reduces trospium bioavailability.

Net fluid absorption (JV) was studied in isolated, perfused snake (Thamnophis spp.) proximal renal tubules. With standard (150 mmol/liter Na+) bicarbonate-buffered Ringer in perfusate and standard Ringer plus dextran (4 g/100 ml) in bath, JV was about 0.9 nl min-1 mm-1.
