In patients with medial femoral neck fractures the condition of the blood vessels is the decisive factor as to whether or not femoral capital necrosis will develop. Therefore, conventional angiography has been used both preoperatively for the diagnostic work-up and for selecting the best mode of management and postoperatively for prognostic purposes. Its routine use has, however, been limited by the long examination time, the complexity of the technique and the potential complications. Peripheral intravenous digital subtraction angiography (DSA) for imaging peripheral vessels is a far less dem

Digital subtraction angiography (DSA) was performed to evaluate graft patency in 60 patients who had undergone coronary artery bypass grafting with the internal mammary artery (IMA). Sixty IMA grafts with 62 distal anastomoses, and 84 saphenous vein grafts with 85 distal anastomoses were evaluated by intraarterial DSA with an image frequency of 4 frames/sec. A No. 4 Fr. angiography catheter was introduced percutaneously into the left brachial artery and contrast medium was injected both into the subclavian artery for opacification of the IMA grafts and into the ascending aorta for opacificatio

The cervico-cranial arteries were studied using digital subtraction angiography in 50 patients with reversible cerebral ischaemic attacks and normal continuous wave Doppler examination. Digital subtraction angiography was able to visualise the arteries satisfactorily in 45 patients (90%), and revealed minor arterial abnormalities in 12 patients (24%). However, neither occlusions nor stenoses greater than 50% of the diameter of the vessel lumen were found. Although digital subtraction angiography is more accurate than continuous wave Doppler examination in detecting arterial lesions, it did not

Angiographic normative values for the size of intracranial vessels are difficult to obtain, since they vary with gender, height and weight. Cerebral angiography only is indicated in severe cerebrovascular diseases, which also can affect cerebral vessel diameters, impeding the definition of physiological values. To approximate "normal" values, over 1000 contemporary cerebral angiographies from a single neurovascular centre were analyzed. Diameters of 14 basal cerebral arteries, age at examination, gender and underlying disease were noted. The dataset (SPSS 29, IBM) comprises 1010 digital subtra

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVE: Patients with symptomatic vertebral artery stenosis are at high risk of stroke recurrence, especially ≥70% stenosis. Revascularization may be considered for extracranial vertebral artery stenosis in patients with recurrent ischemic events despite optimal medical management. Currently, there is a lack of consensus on the ultrasonic evaluation of extracranial vertebral artery stenosis in clinical practice. This study aimed to validate the efficiency of duplex ultrasonography and assess the optimal sonographic thresholds for predicting extracranial vertebral artery steno

OBJECTIVE: Spinal dural arteriovenous fistulas (SDAVFs) often go undiagnosed, leading to irreversible spinal cord dysfunction. Although digital subtraction angiography (DSA) is the gold standard for diagnosing SDAVF, DSA is invasive and operator dependent, with associated risks. MR angiography (MRA) is a promising alternative. This study aimed to evaluate the performance of MRA as an equal alternative to DSA in investigating, diagnosing, and localizing SDAVF.
METHODS: Prospectively collected data from a single neurosurgeon at a large tertiary academic center were searched for SDAVFs. Eligibil

BACKGROUND: Critical limb ischemia (CLI) represents the end stage of peripheral arterial disease (PAD). It is defined as a chronic ischemic rest pain, ulcers or gangrene, attributable to proven arterial occlusive disease. Intra-arterial digital subtraction angiography (IA DSA) still represents the gold standard for the evaluation of steno-occlusive lesions, but it has greatly been replaced with non-invasive multi-detector computed tomography angiography (MDCTA). The purpose of this prospective study was to compare diagnostic performance of MDCTA versus DSA in treatment planning in patients wit

INTRODUCTION: Digital subtraction angiography (DSA) was considered the gold standard method for peripheral artery disease (PAD) evaluation. Notwithstanding, recent developments of computed tomography angiography (CTA) have improved the specificity and sensibility of this method. The main objective of this study is to characterize a cohort of patients with lower limb PAD and clarify if there are differences upon groups using different preoperative imaging methods (DSA or CTA).
METHODS: This retrospective study focused on patients with PAD that underwent surgical intervention (endovascular reva

BACKGROUND: Despite high recanalization rates with endovascular thrombectomy for large vessel occlusion stroke, a large proportion of patients remain disabled. This study aims to investigate the clinical impact of persistent hypoperfusion that was detected immediately after recanalization.
METHODS: In this multicenter retrospective study of patients with large vessel occlusion with near-complete or complete recanalization, perfusion maps were generated from post-recanalization digital subtraction angiography. Focal hypoperfusion within the ischemic territory was detected and categorized as re
