Between 1990 and 2005, 25 acetabular reconstructions in 25 patients were performed using autogenous morcellized bone-graft and acetabular wiremesh due to acetabular bone stock loss. The most frequent preoperative diagnosis in our patients were severe hip arthrosis (50%), and rheumatoid arthritis (15%).The mean follow up was 8.6 years (range 2-15 years). The most frequent long-term complication was the appearence of radiolucent lines.A cemented acetabular cup was used in all cases. Preoperative mean Harris Hip Score was 42.3, rising to 90.6 at follow-up after surgery. None of the patients had a

PURPOSE: To observe the efficiency of intraoperative low-dose Mitomycin-C combined with conjunctival autograft in the treatment of recurrent pterygium.
METHODS: Fifteen eyes with recurrent pterygium were included in this study. The mean age of the patients was 51.6 +/- 11.4 (9 men, 6 women). All patients underwent excision of the pterygium tissue and subconjunctival fibrous tissue with a no cautery approach. 0.2 mg/ml Mitomycin-C (0.02%) was applied for 3 min. Conjunctival autograft was obtained from the superotemporal bulbar conjunctiva of the same eye. Eyes were followed for a mean period o

PURPOSE: To assess the usefulness of limbal-conjunctival autograft transplantation (LCAT) for the treatment of recurrent pterygium.
PATIENTS AND METHODS: Seventeen eyes with advanced recurrent pterygium underwent LCAT All had already been treated at least twice either by simple excision (n=15) or by conjunctival rotation autograft (n=2). Three eyes (17.65%) had symblepharon at the time of surgery, so LCAT was combined with amniotic membrane transplantation. The autograft was taken from the supero-lateral part of the same eye and transferred to the area where the pterygium had been excised.

OBJECTIVE: Structural differences of the pulmonary root may predispose it to progressive dilatation in the systemic circulation after the Ross operation. We identified the incidence and risk factors of pulmonary autograft root dilatation.
METHODS: One hundred and seven adult patients (mean age of 36+/-11 years) were followed after the Ross operation since 1991 including an echocardiogram within 3 months of surgery and yearly clinical assessment and echocardiography. The autograft was measured at the maximum diameter of the sinus (SV) and aortic insufficiency (AI) assessed. A SV of >37 mm was

Cervical spondylosis, common among people older than 50 years, may produce symptoms of cervical radiculopathy, myelopathy, or both. When patients with degenerative cervical disease require surgery, an anterior decompression of the neural elements and reconstruction of the anterior column with allograft or autograft is common. Allograft incorporates more slowly and less completely than autogenous bone graft, although harvest of autograft from the anterior iliac crest or the middle 1/3 of the fibula may be associated with postoperative morbidity. Overall, higher rates of fusion have been reporte

INTRODUCTION: Pterygium is a fibrovascular overgrowth of bulbar cunjonctiva over the cornea and may produce visual impairment. Many surgical techniques and adjunctive therapies have been proposed but recurrence remains frequent.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: We report a prospective study of 52 eyes treated by limbal conjunctival autograft for primary and recurrent pterygium. We compare our results with the technique of simple excision performed in 111 cases of pterygium (3 being a recurrent pterygium).
RESULTS: The mean age of the patients was 45 years. 30 cases of pterygium were primary (57.7%) an

The objective of this pilot study was to examine the usefulness of limbal autograft transplantation (LCAT) in the treatment of recurrent pterygium. Eleven eyes with advanced recurrent pterygium underwent LCAT. All eyes were previously treated at least two times either by simple excision (10) or conjunctival rotation autograft (1). In two eyes (18.18%) symblepharon was present at the time of surgery, therefore LCAT was combined with amniotic membrane transplantation. Limbal-conjunctival autograft was taken from supero-lateral part of the same eye and transferred to the area where pterygium was

The application of the pulmonary autograft (Ross) procedure in the treatment of dilated aortic annulus is still controversial, because technical errors of implantation are more likely to occur as the host annular diameter increases. The Ross procedure was successfully employed in a 28-year-old woman with a dilated aortic annulus after simple annular plication. The annulus was plicated beneath the three commissures where the pulmonary autograft was subsequently attached. The diameter of the annulus was reduced from 32 to 26 mm. This technique may provide a number of advantages compared with aor

BACKGROUND: The treatment of corneal perforations due to corneal ulceration is a serious challenge in countries where there are no eye banks. The author presents an original surgical procedure for treating these cases: lamellar autografting.
METHODS: The corneal transplant was taken at 12 h; size was 2 to 4 mm and thickness 2/3 of the stroma. Twelve patients were treated.
RESULTS: The results are satisfactory and the grafting successful; no complication of significant importance has been noted.
CONCLUSION: Lamellar autografting is an effective method for treating small corneal perforations.

BACKGROUND: For patients with complex left ventricular outflow tract obstruction, including hypoplastic aortic anulus with or without severe diffuse subaortic stenosis, various aortoventriculoplasty procedures (e.g., Konno procedure and its modifications; extended aortic allograft root replacement) are important management options. In younger patients, however, reoperation for valve replacement is inevitably required, and anticoagulation issues pose additional problems. The pulmonary autograft provides a promising option for aortic valve replacement as part of the aortoventriculoplasty procedu
