PURPOSE: Overexpression and activation of matrix metalloproteinase-13 (MMP-13) within atheroma increases susceptibility to plaque rupture, a major cause of severe cardiovascular complications. In comparison to pan-MMP targeting [18F]BR-351, we evaluated the potential for [18F]FMBP, a selective PET radiotracer for MMP-13, to detect extracellular matrix (ECM) remodeling in vascular plaques possessing markers of inflammation.

The use of 75 Selenomethionine labelled cercariae of Schistosoma mansoni for ultrastructural localization of parasites in host tissues has been evaluated. Both gamma counting of tissue, and autoradiography of resin-embedded tissue were successful. The autoradiographic technique was more sensitive and schistosomula were readily located in pulmonary tissue up to 24 days post-infection.

We tested the claim that the dopaminergic dysfunction of Rett Syndrome (RTT) also occurs in Mecp2-deficient mice that serve as a model of the syndrome. The distribution of 3H-8-methoxypsoralen (3H-8-MOP) has been examined by autoradiography in albino and pigmented rat eyes. Very high concentrations were seen in the pigmented layer of the retina, ciliary body and iris in pigmented rats. Using DNA fiber autoradiography, an estimation was made of DNA replication in normal fibroblasts and in those derived from a patient with Cockayne syndrome. The rate of replication fork movement as well as the rate of DNA chain growth, dependent on the frequency of initiation sites in the adjacent clusters of replicons, did not differ in Cockayne syndrome cells, compared to cells of normal donors, either before or after exposure to ionizing radiation.
