The research objective was established by taking into account common sources of soil contamination with bisphenol A (B) and zinc (Zn2+), as well as the scarcity of data on the effect of metabolic pathways involved in the degradation of organic compounds on the complexation of zinc in soil. Therefore, the aim of this study was to determine the spectrum of soil homeostasis disorders arising under the pressure of both the separate and combined toxicity of bisphenol A and Zn2+. With a broad pool of indicators, such as indices of the effect of xenobiotics (IFX), humic acid (IFH), plants (IFP), colo

Laccase activity is influenced by copper (Cu) as an inducer. In this study, laccase was immobilized on Cu and Cu-magnetic (Cu/Fe2O4) nanoparticles (NPs) to improve enzyme stability and potential applications. The Cu/Fe2O4 NPs functionally activated by 3-aminopropyltriethoxysilane and glutaraldehyde exhibited an immobilization yield and relative activity (RA) of 93.1 and 140%, respectively. Under optimized conditions, Cu/Fe2O4 NPs showed high loading of laccase up to 285 mg/g of support and maximum RA of 140% at a pH 5.0 after 24 h of incubation (4°C). Immobilized laccase, as Cu/Fe2O4-laccase,

Bisphenol A (BPA) is a well-known endocrine disruptor that has obesogenic properties. We have previously reported sex- and age-dependent changes in hepatic transcriptome and proteome of several lipid homeostasis-related genes in rat offspring prenatally exposed to BPA. To further understand the impacts of prenatal BPA exposure, we analyzed lipidomic profiles in the postnatal day (PND) 21 and 60 rats using a high-resolution QTOF mass spectrometer coupled with a HPLC system. We found that the total lipid content was significantly decreased in PND21 females prenatally exposed to 5000 μg/kg bw/day

Bisphenol A (BPA) is widely utilized in plastic production process all over the world. Previous studies have shown that BPA, with its similarity to estrogen, may negatively affect living organisms. It is acknowledged that BPA distorts the activity of multiple internal systems, including the nervous, reproductive, urinary, and endocrine systems. BPA also affects the gastrointestinal tract and enteric nervous system (ENS), which is placed throughout the wall from the esophagus to the rectum. Contrary to the intestine, the influence of BPA on the ENS in the stomach is still little known. This stu

Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is considered a predominant chronic liver disease worldwide and a component of metabolic syndrome. Due to its relationship with multiple organs, it is extremely complex to precisely define its pathogenesis as well as to set appropriate therapeutic and preventive strategies. Endocrine disruptors (EDCs) in general, and bisphenol A (BPA) in particular, are a heterogeneous group of substances, largely distributed in daily use items, able to interfere with the normal signaling of several hormones that seem to be related to type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM), o

This study was performed to examine whether prenatal exposure to bisphenol (BP) A analogues, BPE and BPS, negatively impacts female reproductive functions and follicular development using mice as a model. CD-1 mice were orally exposed to control treatment (corn oil), BPA, BPE, or BPS (0.5, 20, or 50 µg/kg/day) from gestational day 11 (the presence of vaginal plug = 1) to birth. Exposure to BPA, BPE, and BPS accelerated the onset of puberty and exhibited abnormal estrous cyclicity, especially with lower doses. Females exposed to BPA, BPE, and BPS exhibited mating difficulties starting at 6 mont

This study investigates Bisphenol A (BPA) induced oxidative stress that mediates the genotoxicity in in vivo model Drosophila melanogaster. The calculated LC50 for BPA was 12.35 μg/mL. The strains of D. melanogaster were reared in 0.1, 1.0, 2.5 and 5.0 μg/mL BPA treated food media from the embryonic stage (egg); oxidative stress and genotoxicity parameters were analyzed. Food intake analysis confirmed that BPA is not an anti feedant for Drosophila larvae and it consumed BPA containing food. Increased reactive oxygen species (ROS) and lipid peroxidation (LPO) and depletion of superoxide dismuta

Exposure to the endocrine disruptor bisphenol A (BPA) is ubiquitous and associated with health abnormalities that persist in subsequent generations. However, transgenerational effects of BPA on metabolic health are not widely studied. In a maternal C57BL/6J mice (F0) exposure model using BPA doses that are relevant to human exposure levels (10 μg/kg/day, LowerB; 10 mg/kg/day, UpperB), we showed male- and dose-specific effects on pancreatic islets of the first (F1) and second generation (F2) offspring relative to controls (7% corn oil diet; control). In this study, we determined the transgenera

Prenatal exposure to gonadal hormones plays a major role in the normal development of the male and female brain and sexually dimorphic behaviors. Hormone-dependent differences in brain structure and function suggest that exposure to exogenous endocrine disrupting chemicals may be associated with sex-specific alterations in behavior. Bisphenol A (BPA) is an environmental chemical that has been shown to alter estrogen, androgen, and thyroid hormone signaling pathways. Epidemiological and experimental studies suggest associations between prenatal exposure to BPA and child behavior, however data a

Exposure to endocrine disrupting chemicals such as bisphenol A (BPA) and phthalates is prevalent among children and adolescents, but little is known regarding important sources of exposure at these sensitive life stages. In this study, we measured urinary concentrations of BPA and nine phthalate metabolites in 108 Mexican children aged 8-13 years. Associations of age, time of day, and questionnaire items on external environment, water use, and food container use with specific gravity-corrected urinary concentrations were assessed, as were questionnaire items concerning the use of 17 personal c

Bisphenol A (BPA) is a chemical that is used in a variety of consumer products, and exposure to BPA is widespread among the general population. Recent studies have suggested that BPA may affect the thyroid and related pathways. However, human studies are still limited. The aim of this study was to determine the relationship between BPA exposure and thyroid function. We obtained survey data and blood samples from The Thai National Health Examination Survey IV 2009, a nationally representative cross-sectional survey using a multistage, stratified sampling of the Thai population. A total of 2,340

BACKGROUND: Bisphenol A (BPA) is a synthetic estrogen commonly used in polycarbonate plastic and resin-lined food and beverage containers. Exposure of animal and cell models to doses of BPA below the recommended tolerable daily intake (TDI) of 50 μg/kg/day have been shown to alter specific estrogen-responsive gene expression, but this has not previously been shown in humans.
OBJECTIVE: We investigated associations between BPA exposure and in vivo estrogenic gene expression in humans.
METHODS: We studied 96 adult men from the InCHIANTI population study and examined in vivo expression of six e

Neonatal exposure of rats to bisphenol-A, an endocrine disruptor, has recently been proposed as a possible animal model of attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder, because such rats exhibit motor hyperactivity and impaired habituation to a novel environment 4-5 weeks after bisphenol-A pretreatment. To extend the original experiments, the present study additionally analyzed the effects of neonatal exposure to bisphenol-A (20 and 40 microg) on rat habituation to a novel environment and drug-induced behavior particularly at a later stage after bisphenol-A pretreatment. Single intracisternal admi
