We present the case of a 54-year-old woman who had calcinosis cutis related to sclerodermatous chronic graft versus host disease. Graft versus host disease had developed following stem cell transplantation for acute myelogenous leukemia 14 years earlier, but was shown by skin biopsy to have resolved by the time of presentation. Radiographs showed extensive cutaneous calcifications in the lower extremities.

As of the year 1991 there were 358 leprosy patients in National Leprosarium Matsuoka Hoyo-En, including 223 patients (62.3%) who had received the injections of chaulmoogra oil before. Calcinosis cutis caused probably from the injections was noted on 73 patients (32.7%): 67 lepromatous and 6 tuberculosis cases. It has never been reported before that the T type patient suffering from calcinosis cutis was observed in the cases of the chaulmoogra oil injection in Japan. The detectable positions of calcinosis cutis were mostly at the injected sites, that is, outside the right brachium followed by b…

A case of localized calcinosis cutis of the hands and fingers is described in an oil field worker with normal serum calcium and phosphorus levels. The proposed mechanism consists of percutaneous penetration and subsequent deposition of calcium from the daily exposure to industrial drilling fluids containing calcium salts.

Extravasation is a rare but serious complication of intravenous injections, particularly with irritant or vesicant drugs, which can lead to significant tissue damage. In this case report, we describe a 14-year-old boy who developed calcinosis cutis due to extravasation of calcium gluconate, resulting in extensive tissue necrosis. Although surgical debridement and grafting were performed, the patient subsequently experienced iatrogenic post-surgical graft calcinosis cutis, leading to severe hand disability. This case underscores the importance of prompt recognition and management of extravasati…

Reactive "syringomatoid" eccrine proliferations are a well-established phenomenon, which can show similar but less extensive histological features of a syringoma. The cut-off between syringomatoid hyperplasia and syringomas is subjective and given the considerable morphological overlap, it is possible they represent two points on the same spectrum. Syringomatoid hyperplasia has been associated with several conditions including neoplasms and inflammatory dermatoses. Herein, we describe an extremely rare case of syringomatoid hyperplasia occurring with calcinosis cutis in a 54-year-old Caucasian…

Acne vulgaris is a common dermatological disease commonly affecting the adolescent and young adults. It is characterized by the presence of pleomorphic skin lesions such as comadones, papules, pustules, and nodules. The common complications are postacne hyperpigmentation and scarring causing psychological impact. Calcinosis cutis is the pathologic deposition of insoluble calcium salt in the skin and subcutaneous tissue. Calcinosis cutis following acne vulgaris is rarely reported in the literature. We report a case of calcinosis cutis in acne vulgaris in a 55-year-old man.

BACKGROUND: Dystrophic calcinosis cutis is a common manifestation in connective tissue diseases, but there's still no consensus on treatment.
OBJECTIVES: The purpose of this review is to discuss the current pharmacological options of treatment in calcinosis cutis related to rheumatic diseases.
METHOD: We performed an extensive MEDLINE search of articles from 1970 to January 2014 using the index word "calcinosis" and the co-indexing terms "treatment", "calcium channel blocker", "diltiazem", "nifedipine", "verapamil", "amlodipine", "anticoagulant", "warfarin", "bisphosphonate", "etidronate", "…

Calcinosis cutis is common in several connective tissue diseases but rare in systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE). A 43-year-old woman with a 12-year history of SLE who presented with calcinosis cutis at the time of SLE diagnosis developed a large, ulcerated, draining mass on her left hip. The lesion was excised and skin was grafted, with an excellent early result. The clinical variants and mechanisms of ectopic calcification are discussed, as well as the proposed medical therapies for calcinosis cutis.

BACKGROUND: Metastatic calcifications are currently an uncommon complication in patients with end-stage renal disease due to improvements in management of these patients. When present, however, calcifications may mimic neoplastic growth and can undergo fine needle aspiration biopsy (FNAB).
CASE: A case of calcinosis cutis was diagnosed by FNAB in a 50-year-old male with a history of end-stage renal disease who presented with a subcutaneous nodule in the right side of his neck.
CONCLUSION: The presence of histiocytes, foreign body-type giant cells and refractile material (calcium crystals) in…
