In this work we present a computational analysis together with experimental studies, focusing on the interaction between a benzothiazole (BTS) and lysozyme. Results obtained from isothermal titration calorimetry, UV-vis, and fluorescence were contrasted and complemented with molecular docking and machine learning techniques. Kinetic studies using reaction calorimetry were conducted under synthetically relevant conditions to study the effect of additives in the cyanation of bromobenzene catalyzed by palladium complexes. This work demonstrates that the addition of a catalytic amount of ZnBr(2) facilitates the reaction with an elimination of the induction period observed without additive. This study afforded a qualitative assessment of the effect of water on the rate-limiting step and the apparent reaction order in bromobenzene.

This report presents an account of energy balance of young Jamaican children recovering from protein-energy malnutrition (PEM). This was done in three steps. Halogenated dodecaborates, and especially dodecaiodododecaborate(2-), are found to trigger effectively the release of the contents of phospholipid liposomes, including liposomes containing distearoylphosphatidylcholine and cholesterol, which are used clinically in cancer therapy. The basis of the release is studied through differential scanning calorimetry, cryo-transmission electron microscopy, and atomic force microscopy. Upon administration at high concentrations, drastic morphological changes are induced by the dodecaborates. Their possible use in triggered release is suggested.
