A radiation accident involving a cesium-137 therapy source occurred in Goiania (Brazil) in September 1987, in which more than 50 individuals were exposed to moderate to high doses (0.2-7 Gy) of gamma-radiation. A cytogenetic technique (i.e., frequencies of dicentrics and rings in peripheral lymphocytes) was employed to estimate the absorbed radiation dose. The release of tritium (3H) to the ocean is planned on the coastal environment in the Fukushima coastal region from Spring or Summer of 2023. Before its release, we evaluate the effect of 3H discharges from the port of Fukushima Daiichi and rivers in the Fukushima coastal region using a three-dimensional hydrodynamic model (3D-Sea-SPEC). Two biodosimetric methods under development at the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory were applied to five persons accidentally exposed to a 137Cs source in Goiânia, Brazil. The polyene antibiotic nystatin is used to reduce selectively to zero the apical membrane resistance of the rabbit descending colon, allowing the measurement of the current-voltage curve of the basolateral membrane. The I--V relationship is described by the Goldman-Hodgkin-Katz equations allowing calculation of PNa/PK, PCl/PK and PK for the basolateral membrane. Cs+ is found to block inward current (serosa to mucosa) in a manner similar to that found in excitable membranes.

Reported herein is the single-step construction of an anti-configured deoxypropionate motif by syndiospecific propylene oligomerization catalyzed by a Cs -symmetric zirconocene complex. After oligomerization, oxidation of the oligomers by oxygen afforded oligopropylene alcohols in a single step. This strategy was applied to the single-step preparation of rel-(2R,4S,6R,8S)-2,4,6,8-tetramethylundecan-1-ol, the racemic mixture of the synthetic fragment of the cuticular hydrocarbons isolated from the cane beetle Antitrogus parvulus.

PdCl2(CH3CN)2-catalyzed arylation of unactivated C(sp(3))-H bonds using (diacetoxyiodo)arenes as arylation reagents is reported. The reactivity of (diacetoxyiodo)arenes as arylation reagents is enabled in the presence of Cs2CO3 under the reaction conditions. This arylation method is highly efficient and occurs without the use of silver salt. The reaction tolerates a broad substrate scope that was not demonstrated by other silver salt-free C(sp(3))-H bond arylation conditions. One pot asymmetrical double allylations of sodium sulfide catalyzed by an iridium complex along with a combination of caesium fluoride and water in dichloromethane have been realized and the double allylation products with two C-S bond chiral centers were obtained in 67-99% yields with b/l 81/19-99/1, dr 85/15-99/1, and 96-99% ee.
