Staphylococcal scalded skin syndrome is a condition which predominantly affects children and causes a spectrum of skin lesions. We present a case of a 2-month-old infant with complaints of fever and fragile blisters over the body. The mucosal areas were spared. The diagnosis of staphylococcal scalded skin syndrome was reached on clinical grounds and culture report. The patient responded well to the treatment, which included an antibiotic (cloxacillin), an analgesic (paracetamol), and hydration with intravenous fluids. Aural swabs were collected from 250 patients with chronic suppurative otitis media (CSOM) (tubotympanic disease). Duration of ear discharge was more than 6 months for culture and sensitivity test. The disease was unilateral in 178 (71.2%) and bilateral in 72 (28.8%) patients. A 30-year-old Chinese female presented with progressive periorbital swelling of unknown cause and redness of her left eye. She was given an antibiotic eyedrop and oral cloxacillin to treat periorbital cellulitis. The clinical picture did not improve and she returned with swelling of the fellow eye. Serious infectious complications of open-heart surgery in 521 adults who underwent 534 open-heart procedures are reviewed. Bacteremia complicated seven (1.3%) of the procedures, carditis six (1.1%) and deep sternal wound infections nine (1.7%). During the acute stage of infectious mononucleosis (IM), 16 out of 19 patients have reacted to skin tests with ampicillin and/or benzylpenicillin or their derivatives.
