[Treatment of large corneal perforations with acellular multilayer of corneal stromal lenticules harvested from femtosecond laser lenticule extraction].

OBJECTIVE: To describe a novel surgical technique for the treatment of large corneal perforations by using acellular multilayer of corneal stromal lenticules. METHODS: Prospective study. The acellular tissue used for the repair was harvested from myopic patients during the femtosecond laser (FS) refractive surgery. Informed consent, blood test and donor eligibility were obtained in each case. Three or four layers of lenticules were stacked up and stored at -80°C in pure sterile glycerin. The diameter is 6.0 to 6.5 mm and central thickness was 300 to 400 µm. If the diameter of the corneal ulce…

Amniotic Membrane-Assisted Corneal Transplantation in Ocular Perforation Due to GVHD: A Case Report.

Background/Objectives: Ocular graft-versus-host disease (oGVHD) is a chronic, immune-mediated complication of allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation that can progress to corneal ulceration or perforation. These cases are often refractory to standard therapy and present a high risk of graft failure after keratoplasty. We report a case of oGVHD-related corneal perforation successfully managed with a novel amniotic membrane-assisted "envelope" technique during corneal transplantation. Case Report: A 42-year-old man with chronic oGVHD and a full-thickness corneal perforation underwent …

Corneal perforation following arcuate keratotomy in femtosecond laser assisted cataract surgery-a case series.

PURPOSE: Identification and management of corneal perforation during arcuate keratotomy in femtosecond laser assisted cataract cases (FLACS). OBSERVATION: Low astigmatism correction in patients undergoing FLACS can be done by arcuate keratotomy incision made by femto-laser. Corneal perforation following arcuate keratotomy is commonly noted with manual incision but very few cases have been reported with femtolaser arcuate keratotomy (FSAK). In this case series, we have reported cases with corneal perforation following FSAK in patients undergoing FLACS. All the cases were managed by placing sut…

Management of a small paracentral corneal perforation using iatrogenic iris incarceration and tissue adhesive.

BACKGROUND: Surgical intervention for corneal perforation is indicated when the anterior chamber does not reform within a short period of time. Herein, we report the successful management of a small paracentral corneal perforation using autologous iris incarceration and tissue adhesive. CASE: A 41-year-old man developed a small paracentral corneal perforation (0.5 mm in size) in the right eye, while the treating physician attempted to remove the residual rust ring after removal of a piece of metallic foreign body. OBSERVATIONS: The eye was initially managed with a bandage soft contact lens t…

Development of an in-situ forming collagen-based hydrogel as a regenerative bioadhesive for corneal perforations.

Corneal injuries play a significant role in global visual impairment, underscoring the demand for innovative biomaterials with specific attributes such as adhesion, cohesion, and regenerative potential. In this study, we have developed a biocompatible bioadhesive for corneal reconstruction. Derived from Collagen type I, naturally present in human corneal stromal tissue, the bioadhesive was cross-linked with modified polyethylene glycol diacrylate (PEGDA-DOPA), rendering it curable through visible light exposure and exhibiting superior adhesion to biological tissues even in wet conditions. The
