3-D Facial Landmark Localization With Asymmetry Patterns and Shape Regression from Incomplete Local Features.

We present a method for the automatic localization of facial landmarks that integrates nonrigid deformation with the ability to handle missing points. The algorithm generates sets of candidate locations from feature detectors and performs combinatorial search constrained by a flexible shape model. A key assumption of our approach is that for some landmarks there might not be an accurate candidate in the input set. This is tackled by detecting partial subsets of landmarks and inferring those that are missing, so that the probability of the flexible model is maximized. The ability of the model t

Robust Fault-Tolerant Control for Reentrant Manufacturing Systems With Periodic Faults.

This article investigates the robust fault-tolerant control problem for a class of reentrant manufacturing systems (RMSs) subject to periodic workstation faults. First, an impulsive hyperbolic partial differential equation (IHPDE) continuum model is introduced to characterize the spatiotemporal evolution of work-in-progress (WIP) in RMSs, in which the state jumps caused by workstation faults are explicitly captured. The fault-induced WIP state jumps are further classified into two cases, namely, mixed WIP state jumps and destabilizing WIP state jumps. Then, for each case, a fuzzy-model-based i

Data-Driven Control of Discrete-Time Systems With Time-Varying Delay Under Multiple Data Perturbations.

This article investigates the problem of data-driven control design for unknown linear discrete-time systems with time-varying delays, where the controller gains are learned from input-state data affected by multiple perturbations. First, considering that the available measurements may be affected by noise, errors, and timing mismatches, a data-based parametric representation is constructed to characterize the set of all systems consistent with the collected perturbed data that contains the true system. Then, using the obtained data-based representation, the delay-dependent data-driven control

Interpretable Stochasticity for Adjustable Chance-Constrained Programming.

Uncertainty poses a significant challenge for optimization algorithms in real-world applications. As these algorithms become more sophisticated, there is an increasing need for them to produce reliable and explainable decisions under uncertain conditions. This article introduces knowledge-enabled explainable chance-constrained programming (KECCP), a novel approach that considers the impact of uncertainty and human factors on chance-constrained programming. KECCP employs the differential evolution (DE) algorithm to construct and represent knowledge through the average treatment effect (ATE) and

State-Rate Bumpless Transfer Control for Quadrotor Systems Subject to Incomplete Statistics Information.

This article deals with the state-rate bumpless transfer control problem where the quadrotor systems suffer the synthetic effects produced by incomplete information of statistics, which includes hidden modes and a partially known semi-Markov kernel (S-MK). Upon modeling the stochastic uncertainties by a hidden semi-Markov chain (HS-MC), the inevitable bumps of quadrotor states caused by stochastic switching dynamics are taken into account. Provided that the state-rate bumpless transfer performance is considered in the design of control laws, an observed-mode-dependent control scheme is present

Optical Transport Network Design via Distributionally Robust Nonlinear Optimization.

Optical transport network (OTN) design, as an emerging technology required for the development of next-generation networks, is often filled with complex uncertainty data failing to satisfy the classical i.i.d. conditions. To address such challenges, under the assumption of nonlinear i.i.d., this article proposes a novel distributionally robust nonlinear optimization (DRNO) approach for designing OTNs. It integrates the location-routing-coverage decisions with given household population information and capacity limitations. Importantly, the proposed approach converts the underlying model equiva

MsM-DPM: Multiscale Mamba Diffusion Probabilistic Model for Medical Image Segmentation.

Diffusion probabilistic models (DPMs) have recently demonstrated promising performance in medical image segmentation. However, traditional DPM has difficulty handling the irregular structure of images and the inherent similarity between lesions and surrounding tissues. To overcome these challenges, we propose an innovative architecture, the multiscale Mamba DPM (MsM-DPM), designed to enhance medical image segmentation. Specifically, MsM-DPM introduces a multiscale attention fusion module (MSAFM) in a multiscale denoising UNet (Ms-DU) to capture lesion deformations from multilevel features, the

Soft Prescribed Performance-Based Reinforcement Learning Control for a PAM-Actuated Rehabilitation Exoskeleton.

In a rehabilitation exoskeleton, stable and safe operation is of central importance in rehabilitation training. This article develops a soft prescribed performance (SPP)-based reinforcement learning (RL) control method to address the conflict between performance constraints and system degradation, ensuring high accuracy and safe operation. First, a tunnel-type prescribed performance function is used to achieve faster convergence and smaller overshoot. Safety boundaries are used to define the tolerable error range, and an intermediate system links the safety and soft boundaries. The soft bounda

A Statistical Physics Framework for Intermittent Neural Control of Human Balance.

Human quiet stance appears to be a simple postural task, yet it relies on complex neural control mechanisms to maintain balance. Although quiet stance control has been studied extensively, the underlying stabilization strategy remains debated. Intermittent neural feedback control is one of the few plausible mechanisms that can simultaneously stabilize upright posture and account for the characteristic sway observed during standing. However, intermittent control during quiet stance constitutes a distinctive class of nonlinear control characterized by state-dependent switching and manifold-trigg

Event-Triggered Control for Switched Systems Under DoS Attacks: A Mixed H∞ and Passive Strategy.

This article investigates the asynchronous mixed $H_{\infty } $ and passive control for discrete-time switched systems subject to denial-of-service (DoS) attacks and communication resource constraints. In order to alleviate the communication pressure, an event-triggered mechanism (ETM) is adopted. However, due to the introduction of ETM, the asynchronous phenomenon may occur between the subsystem and controller. In addition, DoS attacks can have adverse effects on system performance by interfering with communication channels. To address the above issues, a weighted mixed $H_{\infty } $ and pas

A Distributed Protocol to Virtualize All-to-All Connectivity in a Class of Multiagent Systems.

This article addresses the challenge of achieving virtual full connectivity in multiagent systems (MASs) through a novel distributed protocol. Leveraging finite-time convergent observers, the proposed method enables each agent to estimate the states of all nonneighboring agents, facilitating seamless coordination in scenarios where direct communication links are absent. Unlike conventional approaches that focus on leader-following or partial connectivity frameworks, this method ensures mutual state estimation among all agents, thus enabling scalable control. The proposed model incorporates phy

Flexible Performance Control Under Constrained Actuation for Nonsquare Nonlinear Systems With Controllability Relaxation.

Prescribed performance control (PPC) for nonsquare nonlinear systems with unknown time-varying control gains and actuator constraints remains largely unexplored. This article addresses this problem by integrating a relaxed controllability condition with a flexible performance control framework based on saturation deficiency. Specifically, a refined matrix decomposition and transformation are employed to relax the controllability conditions for uncertain nonsquare nonlinear systems. Subsequently, the original system is augmented with constructed saturation auxiliary systems, which not only alle

Dynamic Event-Triggered Adaptive Fault-Tolerant Bipartite Formation-Containment Control for MASs via UIO.

This article investigates the adaptive fault-tolerant time-varying bipartite formation-containment (TVBFC) problem of multiagent systems (MASs) subject to sensor and actuator faults. The MASs consist of multiple formation leaders (FLs), followers, and one autonomous tracking leader (TL). To begin with, for the followers and FLs to deal with the sensor faults, an output transformation is introduced, and thus an auxiliary output that decouples sensor faults is obtained. Subsequently, for coping with the nonlinear disturbance and actuator faults, a new control-augmented unknown input (CAUI) is co

Predefined-Time Output Tracking Control of Nonlinear Systems With Uncertain Parameters Under Denial-of-Service Attacks.

This article investigates the predefined-time output tracking control of nonlinear systems consisting of multiple output-coupled subsystems with uncertain parameters and subject to edge- and node-based denial-of-service (DoS) attacks. The main challenge lies in achieving predefined-time tracking in the presence of both unknown nonlinear dynamics and complex DoS attack patterns. To address this challenge, fuzzy neural networks (FNNs) are employed to approximate the unknown nonlinear dynamics, and an output-feedback controller is developed based on a generalized function. The proposed control sc

Scalable Adaptive Fuzzy Voltage Control for DC Microgrids With Plug-and-Play Operations and Constant Power Loads.

Voltage stability in DC microgrids (DCMGs) is challenged by the concurrent effects of topological variations arising from plug-and-play (PnP) operations of distributed generation units (DGUs) and nonlinear destabilization induced by constant power loads (CPLs). This article proposes a scalable adaptive fuzzy voltage control (SAFVC) strategy for multibus DCMGs with unknown CPL dynamics and changing electrical interconnection configurations. Afuzzy logic system (FLS) approximates the physical CPL current online without requiring prior CPL information. Because the CPL and converter-voltage input

Data-Driven Learning Distributed Optimization of Heterogeneous Linear Multiagent Systems.

In this article, we investigate the distributed optimization problem of heterogeneous general linear multiagent systems by the adaptive dynamic programming (ADP) approach over directed communication networks. A distinctive feature of this work is the development of a data-driven approach that eliminates the need for prior knowledge of system dynamics for all agents. To address the challenges posed by unknown system dynamics, we utilize the ADP-based data-driven approach to develop the distributed optimization control law. First, the feedback gain of the control law is determined based on the s

Skill Information Representation Imitation Learning for Long-Horizon Dexterous Robot Micromanipulation of Deformable Cell.

Robots performing collaborative long-horizon dexterity cell micromanipulation tasks are challenging and practically significant, such as peeling cell membranes, which is considered one of the most technically demanding procedures. The imitation learning (IL) approach is expected to address the challenges of multitask coupling and object modeling difficulties in long-horizon tasks. Existing IL algorithms suffer from compounding error as they perform only a simple mapping of the task environment space to the action space. In this article, we propose a skill information representation IL (SIRIL)

Test-Time Few-Shot Object Detection via Dynamic Prototype Fusion.

Test-time few-shot object detection (FSOD) represents an innovative approach for identifying novel categories using a limited number of support examples, obviating the need for model fine-tuning. Despite advancements, existing FSOD methods, including our prior work, continue to grapple with challenges posed by domain/category shift and limited data availability. Building upon our previous research on test-time FSOD, this article proposes a novel dynamic prototype fusion network (PFN) to overcome these limitations. To mitigate the impact of the distribution shift, a dynamic prototype refinement

Domain-Adaptive Benthonic Organism Detection via Uniformizing Light Field and Color Distribution.

In this article, to exclusively conquer detection degradation of benthonic organisms due to domain shifting between training and testing scenarios, an innovative domain-adaptive detection scheme, termed DAD-ULC, is holistically invented by uniformising light field and color distribution. To that end, the encoder-decoder domain converter (EDDC) with residual connection is created, such that samples in degraded domains can be transformed into a unified domain. The underwater light field perception loss (ULFPL) is further conceptualized by virtue of a multiscale Gaussian filter, so as to directly
