Investigating the Factors Affecting the Need for Unilateral Space Maintainer for First Primary Molars in Late Mixed Dentition.

BACKGROUND: Premature loss of deciduous teeth can lead to loss of space and have a negative effect on occlusion. The use of space maintainers can reduce the severity of problems such as crowding. However, the literature is controversial regarding the effects of early loss of primary first molars The aim of this study was to determine the factors affecting the need for unilateral space maintainer for the first deciduous molars in late mixed dentition. In this cross-sectional study, fifty children between 6 to 8 years who had lost a primary first molar unilaterally later than 6 months ago were r

Evaluation and comparison two types of prefabricated zirconia crowns in mixed and primary dentition: A randomized clinical trial.

INTRODUCTION: Prefabricated zirconia crowns are available to treat anterior and posterior primary teeth, which possess high resistance, long durability, and short working time. They are also esthetic and available in various sizes for all primary teeth. However, their high costs can present a clear disadvantage in many communities around the world. MATERIALS AND METHODS: This random clinical trial study sample included 63 crowns (31 CCZC, 32 NZC) applied to 44 children aged five to nine years with zirconia crowns placed on anterior or posterior primary teeth. Group (1): Locally manufactured c

Management of Developing Skeletal Class III Malocclusion in a Prepubertal Girl with Prognathic Mandible in Late Mixed Dentition.

Treatment of skeletal Class III patients at younger age is highly unpredictable. The patient may respond well to the treatment or may show excessive mandibular growth during growth spurt which may require orthognathic surgery later on. If not treated at earlier stages of life, the condition may worsen with time. This case report will present the comprehensive orthodontic management of a 9-year-old prepubertal girl in late mixed dentition with prognathic mandible. Chin cup therapy was started and continued for 3 years. After chin cup therapy, maxillary and mandibular dentition were bonded with

Orthodontic treatment of transposition of permanent mandibular lateral incisor and left canine in mixed dentition: a case report.

The purpose of this study was to present the orthodontic treatment of a unilateral transposition of a permanent mandibular left canine and permanent mandibular lateral incisor during middle transitional dentition in a 10-year-old female. A panoramic radiograph showed the apex of the permanent mandibular left lateral incisor to be resting on the mesial corner of the permanent mandibular left canine crown, which was ectopically erupted in the proximity of the primary mandibular left second molar. A removable appliance was used to upright the permanent mandibular left lateral incisor, after which

Alignment of a buccally displaced maxillary canine in the late mixed dentition with a modified utility arch: a patient report.

Maxillary canines and first molars are the most common ectopic teeth in young people. Ectopic buccal eruption of maxillary canines is strongly associated with lack of space or crowding in the dental arch. This report demonstrates the management of a buccally erupted maxillary canine in an 11-year, 8-month-old boy without sufficient space. The patient had a mostly dental Class II occlusion and was in the late mixed dentition, and the root development of his canines was consistent with his dental age. To correct the distal occlusion and gain space in the maxillary arch for the eruption of both c

Tongue strength, hard palate morphology and adenotonsillar hypertrophy in schoolchildren with early mixed dentition: a cross-sectional study.

BACKGROUND: Adenotonsillar hypertrophy (ATH) relates to airway obstruction and orofacial changes in children. Whether adenoid hypertrophy (AH), palatine tonsil hypertrophy (PTH), and combined ATH were associated with distinct patterns of hard palate morphology and tongue function in the early mixed dentition remains unclear. METHODS: This cross-sectional study examined 420 schoolchildren aged 6-8 years in central Vietnam. AH was defined by the Fujioka adenoid-nasopharynx ratio (ANR > 0.6) and PTH by Brodsky grades 3-4; tongue strength was measured with the Iowa Oral Performance Instrument, an

Effect of Nasoalveolar Molding on Skeletal Growth in Individuals With Bilateral Cleft Lip and Palate During the Mixed Dentition Stage.

BACKGROUND: Nasoalveolar molding (NAM) is widely used to improve surgical outcomes in cleft lip and palate by reshaping nasal cartilage and aligning the alveolar cleft. However, its lasting impacts on skeletal growth in individuals with bilateral cleft lip and palate (BCLP) remain unclear. METHODS: This retrospective study reviewed individuals with nonsyndromic BCLP born between 1997 and 2017. Two groups were compared: NAM-treated (n=33) and control (n=45). Lateral cephalometric x-rays taken in the mixed dentition before orthodontic intervention or alveolar bone grafting were compared between
