Nappy rash: a pharmaceutical approach.

Before dealing with nappy rash, first examine the cause. Simple precautions such as frequent changing of the nappy, cleaning the skin and applying a water-repellent barrier cream can prevent some types of nappy rash from occurring. Creams and ointments for nappy rash contain a variety of ingredients such as emollients, water-repellents, antiseptics, astringents and anti-inflammatory agents. Nappy rash caused by Candida (thrush) needs to be treated with specific antifungals, eg clotrimazole, nystatin, miconazole. Moving in the water: A randomized controlled trial on the effects of aquatic therapy on general movements and clinical outcomes in preterm newborns.

BACKGROUND: Bucket hydrokinesiotherapy, a supportive aquatic intervention for newborns, has been widely applied, although it lacks robust evidence regarding its clinical and neuromotor effects. While the General Movements Assessment (GMA) sensitively detects early neurological risk, the influence of therapeutic interventions on general movements (GMs) remains unclear. OBJECTIVE: This study aimed to examine the effect of hydrokinesiotherapy on the GMs of hospitalized preterm infants and their clinical outcomes. METHODS: Parallel-arm randomized controlled trial in which newborns were randomly

There have been several technologic advances in diaper design the last several years; however, due to the unique environment of the diaper area, many children continue to suffer from a variety of dermatologic conditions of this region. Common causes include allergic contact dermatitis, irritant contact dermatitis, infection, and psoriasis. Treatments include allergen avoidance, barrier protection, parent education, and topical therapies.

Incidence of incontinence-associated dermatitis in hospitalised neonates. Adaptation and validation of a severity scale.

INTRODUCTION: Up to 60% of hospitalised neonates may develop incontinence-associated dermatitis (IAD). Our aim was to adapt the Clinical Evaluation Scale for Characterization of the Severity of Diaper Dermatitis to the Spanish population and to find out the nationwide frequency of IAD in hospitalized neonates. METHODS: Cross-cultural adaptation and assessment of content validity of the scale. We carried out a prospective, multicentre observational study of the incidence of nappy rash in postnatal wards and neonatal intensive care units in 6 Spanish hospitals. RESULTS: We obtained a content v
