A 38-year-old woman presented with dysuria and fever. Her medical and family histories were unremarkable. CT scan of the abdomen revealed a polypoid mass of 4×2.6×2.2 cm. Her cystoscopy showed a 4×2 cm solid broad-based growth at trigone of the urinary bladder. She underwent transurethral resection of the urinary bladder tumour (TURBT). Histopathology revealed a poorly circumscribed proliferation of spindle cells arranged in a haphazard and fascicular manner along with many traversing blood vessels in a myxoid and hyalinised stroma. Immunohistochemistry was positive for anaplastic lymphoma kin…

We examined 11 women aged 19-26 years (mean age 22.5±3.5 years) with secondary amenorrhea complaining frequent urination over 1.5 years and repeatedly, but unsuccessful treated for overactive bladder and chronic cystitis. The rare cause of sustained urination disorders in young female patients of reproductive age was established: development of secondary amenorrhea caused by weight loss ("cosmetic" amenorrhea) with subsequent estrogene deficit and urogenital atrophy. Morphological examination of the bladder mucosa, an important clue to the diagnosis, helps to identify the true cause of dysuria…

The present study was designed to assess the value of self reported hematuria and dysuria in the diagnosis of urinary schistosomiasis at the individual level. A sample of 964 school children of grade 5 and 6 from 15 schools of the French speaking educational system in the Sudano-sahelian zone of northern Cameroon were submitted to a questionnaire related to hematuria and dysuria, and provided a urine sample each. The urine samples were processed using the dip stick and sedimentation methods, and the degree of microhematuria and oviuria determined. In all 964 questionnaires were collected, 843 …

Six boys from 8 to 17 years old presented with blood dripping from the meatus at the termination of urination, spotting of blood on underwear and/or distal penile dysuria. Repeat urinalyses and cultures were negative, and evaluation included a voiding cystourethrogram. Diagnosis was lacuna magna in the area of the fossa navicularis, which was confirmed by cystoscopy. Each patient was treated endoscopically using a pediatric resectoscope and right-angle wire electrode. The value was incised with the cutting current and the base of the diverticulum was fulgurated. We find that this method of tre…

A 61/2-month-old Cairn Terrier, considered to be a bilateral cryptorchid male, was presented with dysuria and urinary incontinence. This was found to be due to a congenital communication between the urinary bladder and corpus uteri and resulted in distention of the uterus with urine which could not be voided. An ovariohysterectomy was performed. The dog was found to be a gentic female with what resembled external male genitalia, i.e. a female pseudohermaphrodite.

BACKGROUND: Post-cystoscopy dysuria is thought to be common in dogs. Limited information is available in veterinary medicine regarding strategies to prevent or mitigate post-cystoscopy dysuria.
HYPOTHESIS/OBJECTIVES: Determine the efficacy of intraurethrally administered lidocaine jelly in combination with current standard-of-care pain control (eg, epidural anesthesia, nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs) for prevention of post-cystoscopy dysuria.
ANIMALS: Fifty-one client-owned dogs presented for cystoscopy or other cystoscopically guided interventions.
METHODS: Randomized, placebo-contro…

The pathophysiology of bladder leiomyosarcoma, a rare disease with aggressive mesenchymal tumor, is not certain, but its main symptoms are hematuria, dysuria and abdominal pain. Cases described in the literature are few. This report describes a case of a leiomyosarcoma of the urinary bladder in a 49-year-old woman. After CT scanning revealed a heterogeneously enhanced 4-cm mass involving the bladder neck and anterior wall, further examinations detected no metastatic lesion. Cystoscopy and transurethral resection of bladder tumor (TURBT) were performed. The histopathological diagnosis was leiom…

OBJECTIVE: To compare therapeutic effects of elongated needle therapy and routine acupuncture therapy on dysuria induced by benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH).
METHODS: Randomized, controlled, multi-central method was adopted and 150 cases confirmed to the enrolled criteria were divided into two groups by odd or even number, an elongated needle group (n = 72) and a routine acupuncture group (n = 78). Acupuncture was given at bilateral Zhibian (BL 54) and Zhongji (CV 3) in the two groups, once daily, 5 sessions constituting one course, with a 2-day interval between two courses. The treatment w…
