Psychosocial work environment and fertility intention among wage workers: a cross-sectional analysis of the general working population in Korea.

South Korea has the lowest total fertility rate globally, and policies focused on economic incentives have failed to reverse this trend. Workplace conditions may influence fertility decisions, yet the role of the work environment remains underexplored. We examined associations between psychosocial working conditions and fertility intention among Korean wage workers. This cross-sectional study used data from the sixth wave of the Korean Work, Sleep, and Health Study (2025), including 1,249 paid employees aged <50 yr. Fertility intention was assessed as a binary outcome. Occupational factors inc

Next-Generation Vaccines for Co-Circulating PEDV and TGEV: Integrating Nucleic Acid Platforms, Mucosal Delivery, and AI-Driven Antigen Design.

Porcine epidemic diarrhea virus (PEDV) and transmissible gastroenteritis virus (TGEV) are causative agents of acute enteric diseases in pigs and have a high contagion potential. These coronaviruses (CoVs) impose substantial economic losses on global pork production, particularly affecting lactating piglets where coinfections occur. Although traditional vaccines offer partial protection, their efficacy is increasingly challenged by the continuous emergence of mutated strains of PEDV and TGEV. This underscores the demand for novel vaccines with improved protective efficacy and cost-effectiveness

Bridging to Commercialization: Record-Breaking of Ultra-Large and Superior Cyclic Stability Tungsten Oxide Electrochromic Smart Window.

Electrochromic smart windows (ESWs) can significantly reduce energy consumption in buildings, but their cost-effective, large-scale production remains a challenge. In this study, the instability of black phosphorus is leveraged to induce the growth of the tungsten oxide film through its decomposition process, inspired by the 2D material-assisted in situ growth (TAIG) method. This approach results in the preparation of large-scale, high-performance WO3-x·nH2O (n < 2) films. Characterization techniques and DFT calculations confirm efficient regulation of structural water and oxygen vacancies dur

An economic, self-supporting, robust and durable LiFe5O8 anode for sulfamethoxazole degradation.

Electrochemically activating peroxydisulfate (PDS) to degrade organic pollutants is one of the most attractive advanced oxidation processes (AOPs) to address environmental issues, but the high cost, poor stability, and low degradation efficiency of the anode materials hinder their application. Herein, an economic, self-supporting, robust, and durable LiFe5O8 on Fe substrate (Fe@LFO) anode is reported to degrade sulfamethoxazole (SMX). When PDS is electrochemically activated by the Fe@LFO anode, the degradation rate of SMX is significantly improved. It is found that hydroxyl radicals (•OH), sup

Optimization of Pre-Treatments to Overcome Stickiness-Related Hurdles and Enhance Drying Efficiency in Apple Pomace.

Apple pomace (AP), a major by-product of apple juice processing, poses environmental and economic challenges because of its high moisture content, leading to storage difficulties and microbial degradation. Moreover, the high sugar content of AP contributes to stickiness during drying, which causes material agglomeration and limits efficient moisture removal-representing a significant hurdle in the drying process. Sustainable utilization of AP requires efficient drying methods to enhance its stability and usability. This study hypothesizes that enzymatic and ethanol pre-treatments can significa

"Housing Is Health Care": Treating Homelessness in Safety-net Hospitals.

As medicine integrates social and structural determinants into health care, some health workers redefine housing as medical treatment. This article discusses how health workers in two U.S. urban safety-net hospitals worked with patients without stable housing. We observed ethnographically how health workers helped patients seek housing in a sharply stratified housing economy. Analyzing in-depth interviews and observations, we show how health workers: (1) understood housing as health care and navigated limits of individual care in a structurally produced housing crisis; and (2) developed and en
