PURPOSE: Research on the consequences of child maltreatment has primarily focused on behavior and mental health; the children's overall well-being has not received the same attention. A number of studies have investigated health-related quality of life (HRQoL) among victims of child maltreatment, but there is still a lack of knowledge about predictors of HRQoL in maltreated children and adolescents. This study seeks to bridge the gap by drawing data from the German multi-site study Child Abuse and Neglect Case-Management (CANMANAGE).
METHODS: Parents or caregivers of 350 children and adolesce

BACKGROUND: There is limited access to evidence-based treatment for posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) in routine care. Therefore, scalable and resource-efficient treatment formats that are effective and acceptable are needed. We developed a blended format of cognitive therapy for PTSD, combining online modules with a limited number of therapy sessions, to improve resource efficiency, while maintaining the benefits of in-person therapy. This study aimed to explore patients' experiences of blended trauma-focused cognitive therapy (bTF-CT) in routine care.

This paper introduces the hypothesis of Psychedelic Iatrogenic Structural Dissociation (PISD), proposing that psychedelics may reactivate dissociated traumatic material, increasing the risk of psychological destabilization in trauma-exposed individuals. Grounded in structural dissociation theory, this framework suggests that psychedelics can disrupt the balance between daily functioning (the Apparently Normal Personality, ANP) and trauma-related responses (the Emotional Personality, EP), leading to the resurfacing of unintegrated memories. A review of recent studies highlights persistent adver

Many patients with substance abuse problems present with co-occurrent cluster C personality disorders. Focusing on both disorders disrupts the maintenance mechanisms and the vicious cycle between the 2 conditions; however, treatment teams often neglect this issue. In this work, we describe the features of metacognitive interpersonal therapy as applied to a man with avoidant and depressive personality disorders and heroin, cocaine, and alcohol abuse. Psychotherapy proceeded through the following steps: (a) conducting drug therapy to deal with symptoms of abstinence from heroin; (b) forming a th

Background: Focusing on positive memories as a complement to trauma-focused interventions for intimate partner violence against women (IPVAW) could contribute to enhancing the recovery from trauma with the development of a more integrated and emotionally modulated autobiographical narrative. Objective: To test the effectiveness of a trauma-focused cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) tailored for IPVAW that incorporates the evocation of positive memories. Methods: Female survivors of IPVAW entered a randomized controlled trial comparing trauma-focused CBT for IPVAW (CBT; n = 35) to a version that

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES: The therapeutic mechanisms of exposure therapy are not well understood. Research suggests that focusing on the most feared aspect might not be necessary, and that distraction with a low cognitive load (e.g., conversation) might enhance exposure. We aimed at systematically testing the efficacy of exposure therapy with focusing vs. conversational distraction, hypothesizing that distracted exposure would yield superior effects.
METHODS: Thirty-eight patients with acrophobia (specific phobia of heights; clinician-determined) (free from relevant somatic or other mental d

Pediatric bipolar spectrum disorders (BPSDs) are serious conditions associated with morbidity and mortality. Although most treatment research has examined pharmacotherapy for pediatric BPSDs, growing literature suggests that psychosocial interventions are also important to provide families with an understanding of symptoms, course, and treatment of BPSDs; teach youth and parents methods for coping with symptoms (e.g., problem solving, communication, emotion regulation, cognitive-behavioral skills); and prevent relapse. Thirteen psychosocial intervention trials for pediatric BPSDs were identifi

Background/Objectives: This systematic review outlines the neurocognitive outcomes and mechanisms of mindfulness-based cognitive therapy (MBCT) that influence subjective well-being. MBCT is a clinical intervention that integrates cognitive therapy with mindfulness practices to prevent depression relapses and improve mental health. Methods: The review focuses on the effects of MBCT on brain structure changes, cognitive processes, and emotional regulation, which are related to improvements in subjective well-being. A total of 87 studies were included in the review to assess the effectiveness of

In recent years, clinical trials on transdiagnostic interventions for emotional problems among children and adolescents have steadily increased. There seems to be heterogeneity among these treatment protocols, and currently there is no systematic review of this literature. Therefore, this review aimed at identifying the most frequent treatment elements of transdiagnostic intervention for youths' emotional problems and at describing their implementation characteristics. This scoping review included randomized controlled trials, testing transdiagnostic interventions for emotional problems, deliv

Positive psychology is the study of positive subjective experience and individual traits. Identifying deficits in positive psychology regarding fibromyalgia may inform targets for management. Therefore, the aim of the present case-control study was to compare the levels of positive affect, negative affect, satisfaction with life, optimism and emotional repair in a large sample of women with fibromyalgia (cases) and age-matched peers without fibromyalgia (controls). This case-control study included 437 women with fibromyalgia (51.6 ± 7.1 years old) and 206 age-matched women without fibromyalgia

Imagery rescripting (ImRs) is a therapy technique that, unlike traditional re-living techniques, focuses less on exposure and verbal challenging of cognitions and instead encourages patients to directly transform the intrusive imagery to change the depicted course of events in a more desired direction. However, a comprehensive account of how and in what circumstances ImRs brings about therapeutic change is required if treatment is to be optimised, and this is yet to be developed. The present study reports on the development of a coding scheme of ImRs psychotherapy elements identified in the li

Postconcussion syndrome (PCS) affects physical, cognitive, and emotional functioning. Existing reviews of interventions to address PCS are limited to psychological and rehabilitation interventions and to child and adolescent populations. We conducted a systematic review integrating current evidence about interventions for adults with PCS. The inclusion criteria were intervention studies of adults (ages ≥18 yr) with PCS that evaluated recovery from PCS symptoms and focused on functional outcomes; 10 studies met the criteria. Included studies demonstrated medium to high levels of evidence and in

BACKGROUND: Occupational therapists working in mental health services face sustained emotional demands, high workload, and clinical complexity, which may increase burnout risk. While Maslach's three-dimensional model remains the gold standard for conceptualization, a gap persists in integrating physiological factors such as fatigue and behavioral risk outcomes within a theoretically derived framework in occupational therapy.
OBJECTIVE: To analyze the associations between fatigue and burnout among mental health occupational therapists in Spain, and to examine the relationships among emotional

INTRODUCTION: Treatments such as eye movement desensitisation and reprocessing and (narrative) exposure therapies are commonly used in psychological trauma. In everyday practice, art therapy is also often used, although rigorous research on its efficacy is lacking. Patients seem to benefit from the indirect, non-verbal experiential approach of art therapy. This protocol paper describes a study to examine the effectiveness of a 10-week individual trauma-focused art therapy (TFAT) intervention.

OBJECTIVE: fibromyalgia (FM) is a chronic condition characterized by widespread pain, fatigue, sleep disturbances, and psychological distress, with a significant impact on quality of life. While cognitive-behavioral therapy has been extensively studied as a psychological intervention for FM, the effectiveness of psychodynamic interventions remains underexplored. This systematic review aims to synthesize the existing literature on psychodynamic interventions for FM, focusing on their impact on clinical and psychological outcomes.
METHOD: a systematic search was conducted across PsycINFO, Cochr

OBJECTIVES: Understanding patient priorities in nonsegmental vitiligo is essential for developing therapies that address unmet needs. This study used a modified Outcome-Driven Innovation approach to quantify unmet need by considering patients' perspectives on the importance of, and their satisfaction with, treatment attributes.
METHODS: A cross-sectional survey of 522 patients with nonsegmental vitiligo in the United States quantified the relative importance participants placed on 26 treatment attributes. Participants also rated their satisfaction with how well available treatments performed

Pediatric obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) is a complex condition that typically emerges in childhood or adolescence and is closely linked to developmental changes in cognitive and emotional control. This mini-review offers a clinically oriented synthesis of pediatric OCD from a developmental and transdiagnostic perspective, framing it as a disturbance of flexibility, inhibition, and distress regulation that organizes its clinical presentation. Variations in these control processes across development shape the content and form of obsessive-compulsive symptoms and contribute to their frequen

BACKGROUND: Children's psychological problems frequently appear, and the exploration of coping schemes without drugs, physical and mental integration and cultural depth has attracted academic attention. The intangible dance contains rhythmic movements, group cooperation, emotional expression and cultural implications, which make it a powerful tool for psychological intervention. The research on the educational application of dance in the field of intangible cultural heritage mainly focuses on conventional art therapy and music intervention. It is still a relatively new research direction to ap

OBJECTIVE: Skills training as an integral part of dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT) is highly effective in the treatment of borderline personality disorder. Research interest is increasingly focused on the transdiagnostic effects of the skills training on depression and anxiety disorders. The present study examined the extent to which the findings of high-quality randomized controlled studies can be transferred to everyday treatment under routine care conditions.
METHODS: N=26 patients without personality disorders were treated in a day clinic over a period of eight weeks. In the control g
