This is the first report of a metallic foreign body in the spleen of a dog. The animal had abdominal discomfort with a tucked-up abdomen and occasional vomition. Radiography and ultrasonography were used to identify a splenic foreign body which was surgically removed through a ventral midline celiotomy. Migration of the foreign body through the stomach wall was suspected as the most likely cause.

Intrathoracic needles are rarely used in clinical practice. They can migrate within the body, injure large blood vessels and other organs, and cause severe complications. We report an interesting case of intrathoracic needle removal using video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery. The needle was inserted under the left clavicle, penetrated the mediastinum, and migrated into the right thoracic cavity. Although pneumothorax developed during the disease course, no severe complications were observed. Following pacemaker implantation, a 71-year-old female developed infection of the generator pocket. Five years after relocation posterior to the rectus muscle she suffered from cystitis. Cystoscopy revealed the pacemaker generator to be lying within the urinary bladder. Healing was achieved by removing the pacemaker and reutilizing it, after sterilization, in a new pectoral pocket.

Inadvertent transmigration of a gastrostomy tube through a gastrostomy stoma occurred in a patient with a chronic neurological disorder. This led to small-bowel obstruction by the 30 ml balloon of the catheter. Percutaneous transabdominal puncture of the balloon was performed under fluoroscopic control using a long 22-gauge needle with immediate relief of the obstruction and subsequent passage of the catheter.

The authors report a case of total hip replacement followed by early infection. The prosthesis was removed after several months but despite this a fistula persisted. Four years later, signs of bladder infection appeared. The patient was operated on and a piece of cement was found inside the bladder and removed. The relationship between the infection and the migration of cement into the bladder is discussed. It was recalled that nay intrapelvic protrusion of cement should be avoided in the course of a total hip replacement.

Intestinal perforation from a plastic biliary stent is a known but rare complication of endoscopic biliary stent placement. Intra-peritoneal perforation is less common but carries more morbidity and mortality. Only a few cases of early stent migration and perforation have been reported.
