Capitellar fracture with bony avulsion of the lateral collateral ligament in a child: Case report.

INTRODUCTION: Isolated capitellar fracture is a rare injury accounting for 1% of all elbow fractures Bryan and Morrey (1985) and Poynton et al. (1998). In children, a fall on an outstretched hand, before the fusion of the epiphysis, usually leads to lateral condyle physeal fractures. Very few cases of capitellar fractures in the paediatric population have been reported. PRESENTATION OF CASE: Our patient, a 9-year-old girl presented with a capitellar fracture and lateral collateral ligament (LCL) avulsion of her left elbow. A type IV capitellar fracture, indicated by the double arc sign on the

Arthroscopic Suture Pull-Out Fixation of Displaced Tibial Spine Avulsion Fracture.

The aim of this study is to assess the clinical and radiological outcomes of arthroscopic reduction and fixation of tibial spine avulsion in patients with either open physis or closed physis, using high strength nonabsorbable sutures utilizing intravenous cannula needle as suture passer and retriever. Twenty-six patients of mean age 24.5 years were included in the study with a mean follow-up period of 31 months. Twelve patients had McKeever type III avulsion fracture and 14 had type IV. A follow-up analysis was performed using fracture union time, range of motion assessment, and Lysholm and IK

Ischial Tuberosity Avulsion Stress Fracture after Short Period of Repetitive Training.

Fatigue fracture of the pelvis is the form of fracture due to repetitive micro-stress accumulation, can be affected by a number of factors such as patient's nutritional status, biomechanics, social status and so on. Still there is no study about precise standard degree of external force that lead to stress fracture, but it may caused by compression force, traction force or complex force and others. Avulsion stress to ischial tuberosity or anterior superior iliac spine by attached muscle is known as the main factor for the avulsion fracture. This report will deal with 19 years old conscripted p

Arthroscopic treatment of avulsed tibial spine fractures using a transosseous sutures technique.

Severely displaced tibial spine fractures should be treated surgically to restore joint congruity and cruciate integrity with reduction and fixation through an arthrotomy or arthroscopic techniques. Arthroscopy is preferred as it allows for accurate diagnosis and treatment of associated injuries and reduction and fixation of all types of tibial spine fractures while reducing the morbidity associated with open techniques. We report the clinical and radiographical results of 11 cases treated with a technique of arthroscopic internal fixation with non-absorbable sutures, after an average follow-u

Simultaneous Dorsal Base Fracture and FDP Avulsion of Distal Phalanx of the Little Finger.

Avulsion injury of the flexor digitorum profundus (FDP) with concomitant fracture of the distal phalanx dorsal base is uncommon. Simultaneous avulsion fractures of the insertion of this tendon associated with rupture of the tendon from the bony fragment and combination with dorsal base fracture is very rare and also complicated. A 36- year- old man fell and injured his right little finger. FDP avulsion with simultaneous dorsal base fracture (containing extensor Tendon insertion) was detected. Our surgical repair by a single midlateral incision the avulsed fragment was replaced on the palmar ba

Avulsion-fracture of the anterior superior iliac spine with meralgia paresthetica: a case report.

We present a rare case of avulsion-fracture of the anterior superior iliac spine with meralgia paresthetica in a 16-year-old male basketball player. He had sensory disturbance affecting his left lateral thigh 10 days after the injury. Tinel's sign was elicited on percussing the avulsed bony fragment of the anterior superior iliac spine. He underwent open reduction and internal fixation. The lateral femoral cutaneous nerve was noted to be entrapped by one third of the avulsed bony fragment. That fragment was removed, and the remaining portion was reduced and fixed with 2 screws. At week 6, the

Distal humeral fracture with associated triceps tendon avulsion in a renal transplant recipient.

Although distal humeral fractures are well described in the literature, concomitant distal triceps avulsion has not previously been reported. One population that warrants a high index of suspicion for tendon injury after trauma is patients with renal disease. Clinical tests on such patients may yield equivocal results, and in that setting, magnetic resonance imaging may be useful in the diagnosis of concomitant tendon injury. Postoperative rehabilitation is a challenge considering that the old standard of care for isolated triceps avulsions is several weeks of immobilization and that early mot

[Fracture of the dorsal distal phalanx or the so-called bony extensor tendon avulsion].

Fractures of the distal phalanx are common. According to the histological results of Hoch et al., the term bony extensor tendon avulsion is not correct; instead, the description fracture of the dorsal distal phalanx should be used. Many therapeutic options for these fractures are described in the literature. Decision-making for operative treatment should not only be based on X-rays.Good functional results are mentioned in the literature after conservative treatment of larger bony fragments. The mid- and long-term results of remodelled joints that are mostly not in anatomically correct position

An analysis of different types of surgical fixation for avulsion fractures of the anterior tibial spine.

This is a retrospective study of 25 patients, looking at the outcome of open reduction and fixation of displaced anterior tibial spine avulsion fractures with absorbable and non-absorbable materials. The mean period of follow-up was 44 months (range, 21 to 88 months). The results of surgery were assessed clinically and radiologically. Outcome was evaluated by using the Lysholm knee scoring system. Anterior cruciate ligament laxity was assessed by using a KT-1000 arthrometer and range of movements with a goniometer. Overall, children did better than adults, but age per se did not appear to affe

Extensor pollicis longus tendon rupture following avulsion fracture of the third metacarpal.

Extensor pollicis longus (EPL) tendon rupture is a recognised complication of distal radial fractures and their fixation with dorsal radial plates and pins. A number of other conditions including internal fixation of wrist fractures and inflammatory arthropathies have also been reported as aetiological factors of EPL tendon rupture. We report a case of extensor pollicis longus tendon rupture following avulsion fracture of the third metacarpal and review the radiographic and sonographic features.

Adductor insertion avulsion syndrome with stress fracture of femoral shaft: MRI findings.

Chronic vague hip pain may be caused by stress-related injury in the proximal or mid-femoral diaphysis. This has been described as an entity called adductor insertion avulsion syndrome, or thigh splints. In the appropriate clinical setting, the radiologist interpreting the magnetic resonance imaging must be aware of this condition as its imaging findings are subtle. The diagnosis will help the clinician plan the appropriate management. Magnetic resonance imaging can also depict the complications such as stress fracture.

Avulsion fractures of the lesser tuberosity of the humerus in adolescents: review of the literature and case report.

Isolated fracture of the lesser tuberosity is an unusual phenomenon in children and adolescents. These injuries are difficult to diagnose acutely and often present as chronic shoulder pain. In this study, we report on 1 case of a displaced lesser tuberosity apophysis avulsion fracture in an adolescent treated with open reduction and internal fixation, as well as a review of the literature. A 14-year-old adolescent male presented to the senior surgeon complaining of left shoulder pain and weakness 10 days after a wrestling injury. He was diagnosed with a displaced, isolated fracture of the less

Avulsion fracture of the flexor digitorum profundus tendon ('Jersey finger') type III.

Avulsion fracture of the flexor digitorum profundus tendon (Jersey finger) is an uncommon injury. This injury involves mainly young and active patients, especially during sports activities. It is classified into three types according to the extent of the tendon retraction. Type III Jersey finger is very rare, and only a few cases have been described so far.In this article, we report a case of a type III Jersey finger. Rapid diagnosis accompanied by surgery which included open reduction and internal fixation with 2 mini screws, followed by physiotherapy, led to restoration of a full range of mo

[A "blocking" loop in the surgical treatment of avulsive fractures of the patella and damage to its ligament].

In the article is presented the improved method of knee joint extension system restoration by means of blocking wire loop, passed through the formed canals: in tibia--one cross canal and in patella--two longitudinal canals. This method has been applied in 6 patients with injuries of proper ligament of patella and in 18--with patella avulsive fractures. Long-term results have been followed with 12 patients. 11 of them achieved complete restoration of knee joint mobility irrespective of the injury nature.

[Avulsion fracture of the tendon of origin of the long extensor muscle of the toe in a horse and a cat].

An avulsion fracture of the tendon of origin of the extensor digitorum longus muscle is reported in a horse and a cat. This avulsion fracture was due to injury in both animals. There was a striking similarity of radiographic findings in these animals, with involvement of the lateral trochlear ridge and lateral condyle of the femur. The horse was slaughtered because of a poor prognosis as a riding-horse. Fixation of the avulsed fragment with two Kirschner wires resulted in complete recovery in the cat.
