OBJECTIVE: Recent prospective data support the trend towards systematic retroperitoneal lymphadenectomy in patients with high-risk endometrial cancer. Because para-aortic node involvement in the absence of pelvic node involvement is uncommon, a reliable finding of negative pelvic lymph nodes (PLN) at intraoperative frozen section examination might allow omitting para-aortic dissection. OBJECTIVE: To analyse the clinicopathological characteristics of penoscrotal extramammary Paget's disease (EMPD) and to discuss the outcomes after frozen section-guided wide local excision.
PATIENTS AND METHODS: From 1990 to 2005, at our institution, 38 patients with penoscrotal EMPD received wide local excision with intraoperative frozen-section analysis. Andrea et al. were the first to use contact endoscopy in the diagnosis of laryngeal disease, in 1995. This method enables in vivo microscopy of laryngeal mucosa. In the present study, comparison of contact endoscopy with frozen section histopathology was performed in 142 patients with various diseases of the larynx. IMPORTANCE: Given the favorable overall prognosis of human papillomavirus (HPV)-related oropharyngeal squamous cell carcinoma (OPSCC) and the morbidity of increased adjuvant therapy associated with positive surgical margins, large-scale studies on the accuracy of frozen sections in predicting final surgical margin status in HPV-related OPSCC are imperative.
